Could someone please inform me of the possible performance modifications i could make without voiding hyundai's warantee?

Ive considered a turbo but i dont want to decrease my engine life span AND void my warantee at the same time. that will be too much money out of my pocket in the future.

so id like to make up some horsepower by modding in ways that are approved by hyundai.

your correspondence would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

as far as ive read my manual, you have to have the parts 'authorized' by a dealer before you put them in. probably so they cant say 'this part has broken your engine', when it does nothing of the sort.

Dear JB,

Use the search function for "mods" and 'performance' to find hundreds of threads on modifications to your Tiburon.

You should also go to newtiburon.com for some serious modifications.

Since you have a 2005, are you the original owner? If yes, you still have the 60K mile bumper to bumper warranty and the 100K mile powertrain warranty.

I have a 2003 tib, and I am waiting 4 more months to go over 60K miles to install a few more goodies.

General rules on not voiding warranties:
a) Any mod item you can remove without a trace and replace with the old component is normally good.
B) No mods inside the engine generally...these are difficult to remove all traces
c) Intake, and Cat-back exhaust mods are generally acceptable. Headers have proven very problem prone to cause Check Engine Lights.
d) ECU re-prograqmming if you have the ability to progam back to OEM specs
e) Any mod that does not cause a Check Engine Light

A turbo takes you out of warranty....it would be difficult to remove all traces of the turbo install without dealer detection.

If you want to see the possibilities, go to seoulfulracing.com to look at their 430 whp race car. http://www.ngmhouseofpower.com/catalog/ also has tons of goodies.

I did see one Tib tuned to over 800 horsepower, but you could buy a 2000 Corvette for just the parts cost alone.

Byron

I've read horror stories from people on NT.com who have had warranty issues with headers, so byronguidry3732 might want to take that one word out of his c) note above

Claff,

Clarified per your request.

Headers can be installed by a competent automotive shop, but the headers for the Tiburon 2.7 liter must have all 4 oxygen sensor ports and you do normally need your ECU re-programmed as your intake and exhaust flow volume is now too high and out of spec.

Not recommended for rookies or incompetent automotive shops.

I left out a B&M short shifter. Does not void the warranty and does decrease your 1/4 mile time by .3 seconds.

Byron

The issue with headers and CEL (check engine light) is mostly due to the pre CATs being deleted
The fix is to extend the secondary O2's wiring and put them behind a high flow CAT that replaces the test pipe

You don’t need to reprogram the ECU; anyway this solution is impractical for the Tiburon.
program and cables cost around 20,000$ (so you have to ship the ECU and state the mods you have then the company like superchip rechip it and sends it back)
Cost is around 500$ and takes two weeks if you further mod the engine you have to reprogram yet again.
Best solution is a piggyback that goes inline between the sensors and ECU you keep the original ECU thus it’s fully reversible and you can retune on the fly with a laptop (mafterburner SMT-6 or 7 and many more) or directly on a console with the SAFC-NEO

i find nothing wrong with a turbo. i mean yes, it's not good on a stock block, but thats why if you're interested in a turbo, you'll probably get the block built

The warranty will be void if any aftermarket modification causes a malfunction. if your coolant hoses break and you have a turbo on, the dealer will determine that the turbo caused the hose to break and therfore your screwed. turbos aren't a good idea under factory warranty

If you live in Canada..
Hyundai Canada has introduced.
Hyundai Performance parts...
Buying directly and having these Mods installed by the dealership.
These do not effect the warrenty on your vehicle..

I'd go have a chat with your dealer's service manager. I did, and mine told me that intakes are ok as long as they're designed specifically for the car and also that cat-back exhausts are ok.

According to the Magnusson-Moss warranty act, to deny warranty service they have to prove that the aftermarket part caused the problem. In practice though, it's probably easier to play it safe than to take your dealer through the whole legal process.

Oh, and if you have a manual I'd recommend a short-throw shifter too.
