Hi all,
I have a new 2004 Sonata with a 2.4 motor and when in gear and the brake depressed, I can feel a shake on the steering whell. The dealer told me it was normal, is it ? Anyone had that problem ?

Hi there I have the same car and I find that mine does the same thing. I believe that it is normal as it is a large displacement 4cyl. motor and they have an inherant vibration. The reason this happens when it is in gear is that the engine speed drops when in gear and the large diplacement of the pistons make the engine cradle vibrate and you feel this through the steering etc.

On you other post why did they replace the alternator?

Does it shake in "N" or "P"?

They have to replace it because it is noisy when I start the motor cold. The noise goes when the motor become warm.

I also own a 2004 Sonata and it does the same thing. I took it to the dealership and they said they have had other complaints about the same problem. They said it was normal due to size of the engine. I am also experiencing another problem when outside temperature is warm, Ihear a loud popping sound when accelerating above 35mph and window is open{cannot hear it with window closed}and it seems to be coming from dashboard area just right of the steering wheel. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a 2002 with 70,000 miles on it and it vibrates all over the place when its in drive and im holding down the break. I notice that it happens when the cars RPM drops below 1. It never happens when its above that mark. It drives me freakin insane!!!!!!
It's gotta be the 4cylinder engine.
