What is the funsion of a pulse generator and how know if need to be replaced? 1994 excel automatic

The pulse generator is the cranshaft position sensor. This converts the rotation of the crankshaft into 4 firing pulses that trigger the ignition coil to fire the 4 spark plugs.

Dear so,

OOps , yes there are two parts on the automatic transmission called a pulse generator.

Per hmaservice.com Transaxles

If Backward Movement Impossible-Pulse Gernator B damaged or disconnected wiring, shortcircuit.

Ten different problems are listed as caused by Pulse Generator A on the table listed on page 13.
