Hello everyone...First time poster.

I have a 2002 2.4L 4cyl Sonata and have been having some troubles after jump starting it. My radio, digital clock, trip odometer, and keyless entry all are not working. The radio and digital clock act like they have no power. The keyless entry is not responding (I checked the key fob battery). The trip odometer resets after turning off the ignition. All of the other electronics are working okay. I have looked at all the fuses for those things and they are fine. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions or should I just take it in to someone?

Thanks

Did you reverse connect the jumper cables...like see a huge shower of sparks?

Please try changing out the fuses with new ones. It will cost like $4 and eliminate the fuses as a source of your problem. Go to your owner's manual page 6-20 and 6-21. Make sure you look at all of the fuses especially ECU 10A, CLUSTER 10A, ROOMLP 10A and AUDIO 10A. this should solve your radio, digital clock, and trip odometer problem.

Your car will need to be reprogrammed to accept the keyless entry code form your fob. Search in the forum for programming instructions. Or pay the dealer.

apart from the above post....why are you having to jump start it? is the alternator charging the battery? a faulty voltage regulator (inside the alternator) will cause the problems you are having

I didn't reverse the cables that I am aware of (ie no sparks). It started right up after I connected the jumper cables. It was a very warm day (>95 degrees) when I had to jump it. So I am blaming the heat and auxillary fans on draining the battery. This was a week and a half ago and I have not problems since other than the electrical problems that I have described. I will try the fuses but they all look fine.

Thanks for the suggestions...

The heat should have no effect on the car.

I have a 2003 Elantra and have the same exact condition. I was not jump starting my car though, I was jumping someone elses. Radio, clock, odometer, key fob, and gauges are all the same. The multimeter says the alternator is charging at 12.8v at idle and as high as 13.9v when rpms are up. Before i spend the cash on getting a new alternator can anyone tell me if there is an alternator fuse on the unit like some other american brands? Also, how hard is it to re-build an alternator(if they make a kit?) I've done it many times on chevys.

thanks in advance

Brian
