The Iraq war, in its fifth year now, has taken the lives of more than 3,000 U.S. troops, and is costing the United States an estimated US$10 billion a month.

10 billion X 60 months = $600,000,000,000

****, I thought the Sonata payments were high!

While that dollar amount is staggering, the deaths are not.

Deaths by War:
Revolutionary War ............. 4,435
War of 1812 ...................... 2,260
Mexican War .................... 13,283
Civil War: Combined ....... 558,052 (Union = 359,528; Confederate = 198,524)
Spanish-American War ....... 2,446
World War I ................... 116,708
World War II .................. 407,316
Korean War ..................... 36,574
Vietnam War .................... 58,168
Gulf War .............................. 293
Operation Iraqi Freedom ..... 3,611

Let's reorder that list by deaths, highest to lowest. There are only 3 other wars with LESS deaths than this Iraq war:

Civil War: Combined ........ 558,052 (Union = 359,528; Confederate = 198,524)
World War II ................... 407,316
World War I .................... 116,708
Vietnam War .................... 58,168
Korean War ..................... 36,574
Mexican War .................... 13,283
Revolutionary War .............. 4,435
Operation Iraqi Freedom ..... 3,611
Spanish-American War ........ 2,446
War of 1812 ....................... 2,260
Gulf War ............................... 293
