I own a preused 2001 santa fe. When I open the hood there is a notice that states the car is equipped with a DEI remote starter, but my keyless entry does not seem to have the ability to open it. Also under my driver side dash there is what looks like a killswitch for a remote starter and what looks to be an audio cradle. I wonder if the previous owner took out the remote starter. Ive included some pictures to help, any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Dear sambian,

To get your answer you will have to do some exploring under the dashboard on left and right side, and possible under the hood on the passenger side monted to the firewall of the car. You are looking for this box:

http://www.caraudio-caralarms.com/561r.html

This installation guide can also help to locate the box:

http://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/...N561R_06-03.pdf

You appear to have part of the wire harness for this DEI remote starter, but if you have no electronics box it is not functional.

Byron

Thanx for the link, I ended up following the wires up more and it turns out the unit is behind the fuse junction, its really tough to see it in the position its in but everything appears to still be attached, the only thing I dont have is the remote itself, I doubt my keyless entry one would work, it only has a lock and unlock button on it.

press the unlock twice and wait a few seconds or 3 times and wait or 4 times and 5 times

that is the limit on dei systems it reads the unlock pulses from the power locks
if not pull the brain and get the model number
551t no remote
551r uses remote and works with factory keyless
552t or r needs remotes
553t needs remotes

go to www.autotechs.com for the remote
