Does everyone have Speed sensing auto door locks with their Elantra? I noticed mine don't seem to lock automatically. On the website it says it is a dealer enabled. Why would the dealer need to enable them and they wouldn't be enabled from the factory?

The auto lock feature is ONLY available on the limited model. The GLS and SE do not have the feature. It is a ECU/BCM programmable feature.

The locks must be set by use of the dealers OBD scanner (at least that was the case for my 2007 Sonata). Call the dealer and check, it was a no charge operation.

I just got my GLS speed sensors set at the dealer last week. It makes a big difference having the doors automatically lock.

One difference you'll find between the Asian and most American car makers is the auto lock system. The Asians, those that incorporte it, won't have it activated per factory setting. It must be done at the dealer level.

Just a thought about automatic door lock and DIY service....
I used to manage a transmission repair shop when auto locks first appeared. We would routinely put a car on the lift with the engine running, raise the lift, and put it in gear to diagnose tranny noises. Then there would be a "click" and the doors were locked.

I just got my doors on my GLS auto lock enabled.
Took 10 minutes and the dealer didn't charge me anything for the service.

As some else said before, the auto locks are definitely a major improvement to the vehicle.
My two previous cars were GM vehicles, so I was use to having the doors lock automatically.

I just purchased a 2007 Limited and thought it was odd that it didn't have auto locking doors. This forum is great!

I plan on taking it in soon to have the auto locks activated.

Why wouldn't the American dealerships just go ahead and activate this feature before they sell the car? The auto lock feature could be another selling point to pass onto perspective buyers.

After the first week, I noticed mine were not enabled. Went back to my dealer and they want $30. I denied it. I am currently in communication with corp offices over this.

Rob

Update to mine: I communicated with Hyundai Corp over the issues. They agreed this should be a no charge service. They worked it out with my dealer and mine is now done with no fee.

If you get it, make sure there is no charge.

Rob

I'm wondering if the Latin American Cars can have this option activated too. Mine is the full version of the Elantra in my country but it does not have auto lock doors.

Another thing, it is necessary to be the dealer the one to activate this options or it can be activated with another OBD II Scanner?

Asked the dealer today at the 20000Kms maintenance and they activated the auto door lock without charge. Now the car locks at 20km/hr, great for children.

So I am hearing two different things. I have a 2008 SE. Has anyone with the same had their locks set to automatically lock?

My sales person said no, but I am reading some people have done it.

I really want to get this done if it is possible.
Thanks.

Tylerec,

it does not matter which trim do you have. The thing is that some dealer sell the car with this feature active and some other doesn't. This is a configurable feature that can be set either at 20kms/hr or 40 kms/hr it is up to you, and it is done when maintenance personnel connect their test equipment to the cars computer. In my case I said to the shop personnel that I read about this configurable feature in a forum, at first the guy said to me that he has no idea about it and he was not sure if the Elantra had this feature, but I insisted and right in front of me he shows me how they use the Test Equipment and we found out how to activate it.

I believe that there are some other features that can be activated with this equipment, because in the same list where we found the auto door lock, there was some other things that I couldn't read.

Hope this helps.

About this auto lock feature. Last time I went to do an oil change, I asked the service manager about this and he said that it was not possible with the 07 08 elantras.

Is there any document or references that I can show or tell them next time I do a visit?

Thanks... :liebe011:

Look at the last Safety Feature. I plan on showing this to the dealer if they don't believe me.

No problem, let us know how it goes. I can't get to the dealer till 5 Aug., I hope they don't try to give me the run around.

My dealer wouldn't do it unless I forked over some money. I told him this was something advertised on this car, and I wanted it. The service Dept said that unless I worked it out with the sales person, it was a charge for the time.
Sales person was no help so I emailed Hyundai Corp. I got a case number and a phone number to call. The person I talked to did a 3 way call with my dealer. When the call was done, all I had to do was go to the dealer and they hooked me up.

My argument was that if it was a extra charge, they should put that in the book and on the web page under options.

Make sure this is no cost to you. Hyundai Corp said it should be no charge!

Dealers just want more money!
