Hello to all and thanks for the lovely welcome.

I'm changing the head unit in my australian '07 1.6l 5 door getz. Has anyone succesfully kept the operation of the steering wheel controls with a new deck?

imo, the infra red transmitting type is not really suitable as there is no good spot on the centre console to mount the transmitter to point at the IR receiver on most decks.

Of course you can buy adaptors that are hardwired to the new stereo.
Ive spoken to the people at PAC audio in the US but as they dont have the getz there, they're not sure of the compatibility of the hardwired units with the getz controls.

I'm sure SOME body has achieved this. This being my first car with SWC's i'm desperate to keep them - they're great!. I'm waiting for a reply from the australian distributor to see if they have done it for the getz, but i'm not confident.

i've found no information at all on the net, so if you know anything at all, please post it here!!

well, i'm taking a punt on the advice of stinger australia, the local dist for this product.

for all those interested, the 07 getz steering controls connect to the head unit by 2 wires, red and pink. apparently the red wire carries all the info to the head unit (according to my multi-meter) , so that is the only wire you need to connect to the interface.

i've paid for a swi-jack unit and will recieve it in a week. see how it goes!

well, i nailed it just today!

really happy with it. there is a slight lag after pressing the buttin but its not that bad.

I got the thing at a good price from the U.S. pretty quickly.

The '07 Getz (and probably others) have two wires, red and pink, that connect to the factory deck to control from the steering wheel, in a separate plug to the main wiring harness.

- The RED wire carries the info and must be attatched to the WHITE wire of the SWIJACK interface.

-The PINK wire must be connected to neg (-) ground.

The other SWIJACK connections are as follows...

-connect the red wire to 12v switched, or accessories. it does not need memory.
-connect the black to neg (-) ground.

THATS IT!! - all other wires must be tied off and insulated. the programming instructions are very clear. just make sure you use a compatable deck. i used Alpines 9883e from alberts perth, cheaper than ebay! Alpine decks 9881, 9883 and 9885 all have the 3.5mm plug at the back for use with this interface. I'm sure some of the older/cheaper models have the same. just be sure the plug is there at the back!

Any questions? if this isnt clear, post here and i'll fill you in.

Again, this was in an '07 getz. If your Factory Head unit also has 2 wires that plug in separately at the back, my guess is its exactly the same as mine. enjoy!!

my partner just got a 07 getz and we have fitted an aftermarket head unit, and when we tried to wire the controlls in, we were given a CAT-09 which was supposed to work, but according to the installer, had no hope in ****.

would you know what unit would work in the getz, that suits a Kenwood KVT-739DVD

cheers
