Hi All,

I just bought a 2001's Hyundai Accent GLS Automatic used car . Since i'm a newbie on 'Automatic transmission' world :( , can anyone give me information what will be the most common problem that user complaining or what things that need to have attention more that can be a potential damage for this type of car?

Also many people told me that having a automatic transmission car means more cash spend on maintenance/spare part and also need more attention to keep the car in a well condition than manual transmission's car. Any opinion on this?

from my experience with other auto cars if you change the oil frequently you'll have no problems at all,.. and if you add an oil cooler it'll be even better,... its high oil temp's that usually kill the tranny,.........

Hi!........just have the car serviced by HYUNDAI according to the schedule in the handbook & you`ll be fine!.

As was said above, pay particular attention to the level & quality of the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

Nick. :)

The main problem that these automatic transmissions suffer from is improper or harsh shifting.
This is caused by high resistance within the pulse generator wiring connector, the resistance in the wiring itself or the vehicle speed sensor is out of phase.

But you do not need to worry about this problem, just ensure that you regularly service your transmission properly.
And quite frankly I don't give a rats arse what Hyundai says, but there is not one Auto out there that can possibly be protected by auto-trans fluid that has been in the transmission for 90 000km's.

Most certainly is!!!!

Best car I have ever owned to tell you the truth.

Except I love driving my girlfriends car a little more at the moment until I carry out the full suspension upgrade on the Cressida,.......not that it needs it or anything...i just umm

My other car is a Opel Kaddett (or to the Aussie, Holden Gemini), which I am preparing for Circuit Racing, but amognst the hassle of purchasing a house, work has no commenced on it for quite a while, along with the fact that there is no bolt on performance parts for these cars in the areas that need to be upgraded, so it's all custom!!! :) :)

To put it simply Blitz, just look after the car and all will be fine.

If there is a problem with the auto you will know, it will then be time to ask questions! :)

Common Problems with 2001 Accent:

Dashboard Lights - The check engine light may come on and the diagnostic code may indicate a lean fuel condition requiring Mass-airflow sensor replacement.
I have hasd this one! Didn't fix it. It comes and goes

Transmission slippage - Poor shifting, slippage or will not shift out of third gear can often be traced to corroded connectors in thw wiring harness.

NHTSA recall history:

Throttle valve may not close fully after steady driving in cold temperatures, causing the vehicle to idle at higher than normal rpms.
