Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help. This is my first car so I don't really have a clue. :)

When I start up the car (just turn the key, I'm not touching anything else!) the car revs really loudly and i have to leave it alone for a bit to calm down before I put it into gear, otherwise it makes a horrible noise.

Then, when changing from 1st to 2nd gear it revs madly and shudders. I may be a learner driver, but my instructor's car NEVER does anything like this.. so basically I don't think it's anything I'm doing.

I wouldn't mind but the gear change thing is really embarressing and this morning the car engine sounded a little bit like a hairdryer and, understandably, I found this worrying.

Thanks for any advice you can offer

spark plugs and leads are a good first bet, if they already haven't been changed.
Get some fuel system cleaner too while your at it, you can get it at any halfords or such like.
http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/pages/pricing/...ns/NGK-cars.asp , some decent ngk iridiums would do your engine good.

Ooo right! Thank you!

The system cleaner sounds simple enough.. Though I'm guessing I should go to a garage or somewhere about the spark plugs.

Thanks very much for your help :)
