In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.

I’ve started collecting data on the 2007 Santa Fe and will have the first "official" results in August, thank in part to help from members of this forum. I'll do the same with earlier model years once enough owners have signed up to help out.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.

Details: Vehicle reliability research

Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

Among the first-gen model years, the 2003 is now about halfway to the minimum. I'd like to provide results for these, and will start when collecting data when enough owners are signed up to help out.

Results for the 2007 were posted last month.

I'd like to provide similar results for the first-gen Santa Fe. I'll start collecting data as soon as enough owners sign up to participate.

Latest results posted. The 2007 Santa Fe continues to have a relatively high repair rate.

Not yet collecting data on the first-gen Santa Fe, but getting closer. The 2003 is closest.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Your experience is more common than many people think, for just about any car.

The 2003 is now 2/3 of the way to the minimum, and other years are also getting there.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I'd like to include the first-gen Santa Fe in this survey, but cannot until more owners have signed up to participate.

Updated results for the 2007 next week.

I'd like to include at least a few years of the first-gen Santa Fe, but still need more participants to help make this happen. The 2003 is very close.

I have a 2005 FWD 2.7 and had the radio replacement (cd nolonger working) and 1 ball joint because of road conditions. I have 94,000 KM and I'm tough on it.

Really impressed but gas mileage could be a little better

CD players are a common failure in many models.

This generation of the Santa Fe is still not included in the survey, but is getting closer. The 2003 is just a few owners short of the minimum.

Thanks. Maybe you'll have better luck going forward.

Still need more of these to include them in the survey--very close for the 2003:
