On 19th January 2005 Ireland will be converting all road speed sign from miles per hour to kilometres per hour. I have a 2001 Accent and would like to know if there is a conversion kit available or adapter or replacement facia for the speedometer. Thanks.

If you have a look for some foreign sites you might be able to get a set of KPH-only dials - and you might be able to get KPH / MPH dials which have KPH as the main speed value.

I've had a quick look around, but can't seem to find anything at the mo.

Its easy to convert it in your head. In Canada we changed over to KMs in 1976 and the signs were both mph and kph for about 2years. To put it simple just realize that if speed limit is 100kph it is equal to60mph or .6 or 6/10 of kms posted. Another example is 60kph =36mph. Just multiply your kmsx.6. Hope this helps and does not confuse you.

Thanks for the replies. The authorities here have decided to go for the 'big bang' approach and so there will not be dual signs. As you say the conversion is quite easily done and since all other signs over here are already in metric since the early 80's most people won't have a problem in understanding the limits. Cars in general in Ireland have dual display speedos but the font size of the km/h range is quite small. I'm thinking it would be easier though to have a metric display and as its a fairly small thing I thought that there would be a fairly small solution!1 Thanks again for your help.
