The story starts when i get home from basic training. My car wouldn't start but cracked. I completely changed the electrical system including coil and all. Nothing. Then i learned that my ECU was fried. I visited a junkyard and got another ECU only probably was my stock ECU was a Z29 and they gave me a Z31. It worked for awhile, then I started to get a lack of power in the engine. I can diagnose it as idles alittle rough, and when i hit the accelerator, when it cold, it bogs down. It seldomly stalls when i put it in gear, especially when its cold. As of recent, my check engine light came on, it told me to check EGR, i took my EGR case off. It was completely stopped up with carbon, I cleaned it hoping it was my cure; but the same old lack of power. I changed the EGR temperture sensor because it didn't give me an OHM reading. And the new one doesn't give a reading as well.

Now, I'm stuck with a car that doesn't work properly, i can drive it still but its no fun; cause I know how the car used to drive. Please Hyundai gods, help me!

I joined the Alabama National Guard, and went to Basic at Fort Jackson, SC, and the car has 117K on the engine, but its been rebuilt, everything but the rings. My dad got cheap on me. I'll reply back when i check if that solves anything.

I just got a new EGR, new thottle positioning sensor but haven't installed the TPS yet, it does the same cold start problem, i think its bad rings honestly. Aren't you suppose to get maximum compression on the first stroke? or after a series of strokes? Its a funny car, I can't hold a constant pressure on the accelerator or it bogs down, i have to continuely pump the petal for anything to happen. I seen alot of Message boards on Hyundai Excels and i see alot of people having the same problem. So something is giving out on these cars.
