We are considering the purchase of a 07 Veracruz limited.

Does anyone know if there is a simple way to integrate an ipod or other mp3 player into the stereo system (other than fm modulation)? If there is no DVD player in the vehicle, is there a extra set of audio connections we can use? Is there a set of inputs on the external amplifier that could be used?

For feedback to Hyundai purposes, the lack of an audio input jack for external mp3 or other audio sources is a bigger issue to us than lack of factory navigation.

I am not sure how to do it. My wife and I just bought a Veracruz SE with the Entertainment package. The audio inputs are located on the rear DVD unit. We have been able to get the iPod to play on the rear headsets, but we have been unable to figure out how to get the iPod to play on the car speakers. The owner's manual states that we are supposed to be able to do this.

We took it by the local dealer today, and no one there knew how to do it. I called the Hyundai Southeastern Customer Service number, and I was told that they will have to research it. I am supposed to hear back in a couple of days.

The owner's manual does specifically state that an auxiliary audio device is supposed to be able to be played over the car speakers if plugged into the aux jack on the DVD player.

Well the wife and I took the plunge and purchased a 07 limited the other night.
We get the same results as ugarxdawg in that we can use the aux jack and get playback thorugh the headphones but not through the main head unit. I have heard (on other forums) that a external audio input jack will be included in the 08 models. I'm guessing that before any 08s start showing up though, that there will be third party adapters that will take advantage of the RSE inputs with a switching device.

ugarxdawg did you hear back from Hyundai on this?

I'd sure love to learn if anyone has figured out how to do this too. I want a veracruz very badly but am NOT willing to buy one until I know there is a reliable solution (3rd party or not) not counting FM modulation.

This alone will keep me from buying a veracruz and it's killing me!

I'm wondering the same thing. The dealership seemed clueless when I asked them before we bought our Veracruz Ltd. They are apparently checking to see what the options are. All I want is an auxillary input. It has to be there since I didn't get the DVD system. I had read a post by someone on the web that found an aux cable that connects to Hyundai stereos and costs about $29. But it's in Korea and you have to order a minimum of like 1000.

I just found this Car and Driver review that says there is an ipod connector located inside the flip down compartment under the stereo. Sounds like it's a dealer option. Of course my dealer didn't know anything about it.

Ok, I took a look in the compartments to see if I could find any kind of port. The flip-down compartment under the stereo didn't have anything. However, the compartment in front of the shifter (the one with the power outlet) had a slit along the back wall. The manual says the power is for things like cell phones and other electronics. I'm wondering if this is where the cable is supposed to poke out. I didn't want to risk breaking the tray trying to remove it in order to see if something was behind there. Anyone else care to take a stab at it?

I do know that there are different head units, depending upon model and accessories purchased (look in owners manual).

I also have seen the post about the $29 cable from Korea and someone said they were going to order some but could not find out any additional info on that either.

My dealer also claims not to know anything about the "dealer accessory" mentioned in the article either.

Also have not found much in the way of instructions for disassembling the dash to access the head unit (car stereo web sites usually have this info). Guess I'm not ready to try to tear things apart yet to try to get something going.

I believe this is the AUX cable that has been talked about.

(search on eBay for Hyundai-Kia-stereo-aux-cdc)

Does not look like it will work for any of the Veracruz head units.

Duh. I got in my car last night and realized that the slit in the lower tray is for the blue LED illumination. Oh well. My guess is that the flip down compartment just under the stereo is supposed to have the adapter. I guess they skimped to save a couple dollars and left it out of the final production model.

Yeah, I've seen that adapter on ebay but who knows if it would work without pulling the stereo out to see what the port looks like on the back.

My dealer keeps calling to tell me they are trying to track down someone to install an adapter. They are talking with a third party company to do it. I hope it's not outrageous when they finally get a price.

Awesome! Thanks! Where did you find this information/picture? Any word on when it will be available? I was about to look into having a second stereo installed in the rear.

Here is the part number for the ipod aux adapter for the Veracruz:

U8550-00100

They are on backorder until at least the 28th of September at this time.

I don't know if it is "plug-n-play" - maybe one of you sharp audiophile types could buy one and let us know how the install went. :P :)

The dealer I talked to wanted $200 to put mine in. He quoted me $65 for the part and $135 for labor. Sounds kind of steep for the labor - especially if it is "plug-n-play".

This external audio adaptor also shows up on the KBB and Edmunds "build your own" sites as an option for 2008, with a retail price of $95 and an invoice of $76. It designates this as (PIO), which I believe means it can be dealer installed.

I have also checked the Hyundai Technical pages, but there is no specific mention of this part, although the block diagrams of the audio system do show the inputs on the factory head unit for this to attach to.

As far as the cost to install, it would depend to a great extent on just how much work is involved to make the connection to the head unit. If Hyundai were proactive, there might be an interface cable running from the head unit down to the area behind the compartment where it is installed. Then it would be as simple as plugging the adaptor into the harness. The alternative would be that the head unit might have to be remove to gain access; that would be labor intensive. Since this part appears to be back ordered, we probably won't know anything until someone actually gets one from a dealer.

I showed the photo to my dealer and they called Hyundai. Hyundai denied knowing anything about it. My guess is that they won't show up until the 08's hit the lot. I guess I will keep playing the waiting game. I'm kind of torn as to buying the new iPod Touch or not because 16gb is tiny. So maybe I will hold out till a bigger one comes out and by then the Veracruz adapter will be available.

If head unit is similar to the Tiburon HU, there is a CD changer/aux input port on the back. Plug this adaptor in and you're good to go:

Thanks. But the Veracruz is an Infinity and the adapter looks to be for a Kenwood. :(

Sorry, I wan't as claear was I should have been. To answer your question: Maybe, maybe not.

You need to check the back of the HU first because I don't know for sure if the Infinity HU in the VC has the same connector as the Infinity HU Tib (and a few other Huyndais). There are 2 types: an 8-pin and a 13-pin. Just be sure to check yours before you buy. If the VC is different, search the Crutchfield webpage to find the right one (pin output). It's the same type of adaptor that just plugs into the CD changer port of the HU. Here is a DIY guide to better explain what I'm trying to say:
