Hi all - I have about 190 miles on my new Entourage SE and I noticed that when braking there is a vibration that is pretty noticeable. I looked at the rotors last night in my garage and there are 4 or 5 score marks on each surface of the front rotors. There are none on the back rotors. There is no way that could be normal is there? Is that a symptom or the cause of the vibration? If any of you have any thoughts, let me know.

Dear mic,

Scoring at 190 miles on your Entourage? No, **** no. Have you been driving in a sandy or gravel area? I have 44,000 miles on rotors on a Tiburon, and they are still quite smooth. No vibration, no scoring, no irregular wear despite hard braking.

Your vehicle has to be under warranty. Get the dealer to check the runout on these rotors. While a rotor is a wear component in the brakes, these appear to be defective from the factory.

Just a quick update on this situation. The dealer had the van for a day and here is what they found. They test drove and felt the same vibration. The first remedy was to machine the rotors and then retest. Vibration still there. Then they replaced the rotors with new ones and then retested. That did it. When I asked the service manager what was the cause, he said that they could not be entirely sure but they thought that the original rotors were defective. I have had it back for a week and the braking is sweet! No vibration to be found. :460:

I've seen this a few times on new Sonata's. You get a real bad vibration in the steering wheel when you brake at any speed over approx. 30mph. The rotors are typically warped from the factory. Taking a few thousandth's off the rotors has always fixed the vibration.

I've got a similar issue with my Entourage.

There is a grinding when I slow to a stop. It's from like 5mph to fully stopped. I pulled the wheels and checked the brake pads and rotors, no scoring to be found, and the pads are at least 50%.

I've got 25k miles on the van, and I love it to pieces, but this is really worrying me. I've got an appointment at the dealer bright and early tomorrow to find the cause, and will update this post when they tell me what's going on.

Hi everyone I just joined today. I have a brand new 2008 Entourage with 800 miles on it and I have the same problem with the rotors. I'm taking it back to the dealer on Sat. That's gotta be a defect. We'll see what happens.

Just got back from the dealer today. They had to resurface the rotors. It's what I figured. I had a problem with the dealer they made me make an 8:30am appointment and I didn't get out until 4:00pm. On top of that they scratched the corner of my brand new car. They told me to bring it back during the week to have it detailed. I notice that all the cars that were under warranty didn't leave until the afternoon. They took all the paying customer first. I didn't like that at all. To be continued...

I get a rumbling and vibration when using the brakes coming down hills. It only seems to happen when we are on trips and have lots of stuff/people in the van. You feel the vibration through the pedal and not the wheel. It sounds like it is coming from the rear rotor.

Dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. He said it may be a "hot spot" in the rotor and can be fixed by replacing the rotors. He said because the rotors are wear items they would have to be replaced on my dime.

I'll order new rotors on my own.

I have a month old 2008 veracruz and they had to machine the rotors after a week of driving and it solved the issue. They should not have to do anything like that on a week old vehicle but nonetheless the vibration is gone!
