Hi everyone.

We bought a 95 Lantra the other day, 1.8 GLI.

Its done 169,000km.

We have a couple of issues with it and not sure what to do about them.

It seems to rail across bumps and follow the road or deviations in the road, like I will take my hands off the wheel going down our unmade rough driveway and the wheel will so its own thing and follow the road. Hit a rut in the road and it will follow it.

It has directional low profile tyres on the front and non directional ones on the back. My father in law and I think that the directional front tyres might be part of the problem. It doesnt hold 100km on the road too well and will move a bit all over th road, the steering is quite sensitive and touchy. I think it oversteers.

THe other main issue we have is that when you go over bumps the front end makes a "squishy" type noise. My father in law seems to think its the rubber bushes. I tend to think the shockers need replacing. ALso, on the front guard in front of the wheel the plastic seems to be a little loose, this shouldnt move though when you hit bumps/

My solution I was thinking of trying was brand new tyres and new shocks and see what that does.

If someone could suggest a good setup for a 95 Elantra, for nicer hadnling than what it has, that would be awesome.

thanks

the first thing to do is to get the front wheel tracking checked and adjusted, from what you say the 'squishing' noise sounds like the front shocks, why not get the front end checked out by a decent mechanic as apart from the tracking issue it is difficult to diagnose on the forum without looking at the car

Hi, thanks for the reply )
I guess any car forum, its hard to know the problem, I was hoping someone with a Lantra could suggest a fix, maybe tyre combo, or they had the same problem and put different shocks on etc.
cheers
