This company claims to develop adapters based on demand.  Let's band together...I'm on the waiting list:

I finally broke down and had a wired FM modulator installed yesterday in my AWD Limited with Premium package. I bought an Audiovox FM100a from Circuit City for $50, and took it to Best Buy for installation, since I had found a tech there with an advanced installation certification who was comfortable with soldering and a custom installation. The Audiovox unit requires a power switch - I couldn't find the auto sensing one referred to by a previous poster. The tech at Best Buy was very accomodating, and charged about $75.

Along with the modulator I brought a stereo mini jack and rocker power switch from Radio Shack, since the Audiovox comes with a bright red toggle switch that might look good on a dune buggy.

The stereo minijack is installed in an empty space between the two heated-seat switches in the tray at the bottom of the center panel, next to the power outlet.

The rocker switch is installed at the bottom left of the dash, in an open space next to the fog light/panel dimmer/ESC buttons.

All-in-all I'm very pleased with the clean look of the installation, and the sound is very acceptable. There's only a slight high-frequency hum that I don't think will matter, and the volume/sound quality is great.

Signed up as well... hopefully it'll come sooner rather than later. It's my wife's truck and she really doesn't care for the iPod kit but that's all I use and driving her truck without my iPod drives me insane.

Hey guys,

I'm tired of waiting so I wrote the company. They wrote back right away, here's the answer (sounds like a sales pitch....I know, I know):

Hello Danny,

I went to both my engineers and my R & D departments today to ask about this and they are very tight lipped about information even to our own company. They both informed me that this is something that they are working on and are trying to get it onto the market as soon as possible. Now, that may not seem like a lot, but the fact that they are actively working on it rather than saying 'Its on the list' is definitely a good thing. Our engineers pride themselves at constantly being the first company on the market for many adapters and are striving to be the first for the Santa Fe. Also, if you would like to post this information on your forum to entice some of your fellow fans of the Santa Fe to put their e-mail address down it would allow them also to be notified as soon as it becomes available.

I apologize for not having a definite date but I hope that the fact they are working on it is good news. I will be talking with you soon.

Hey Guys,

This is my first post, so here goes. I am collecting my 07 GLS Santa-fe in a couple of days and the whole I-pod thing has been driving me nuts!! To cut a long story short and after many hours of looking for an interface to give an affordable Aux input I have had some success!! Take a look at the following link and I hope it is of some help.

http://www.ktduk.com/site/product.cfm?id=7...8C8A7905A1C45EA

Be careful there are 2 models; the first is for an 8 pin CD changer input “CTAHYUSB001” and the second model is for the 12 pin “CTAHYUSB002”. Until I get my Santa-fe and rip the stereo out and have a look I don’t know which one to order…..

Hey Guys,

Finally got around to taking out the stereo (and the wife’s permission!) only to find out that the head unit in the Canadian GLS does not have the CD changer port :w00t:

I have now fitted a double din unit made by JVC with a 7” touch screen. Also added a JVC iPod interface and Bluetooth interface for phone integration. With the advice found on this site the installation went very smoothly and it looks factory fitted, although a lot cooler! The only struggle was trying to workout how to keep the steering wheel controls and I managed it via a separate interface made by PAC Audio http://www.pac-audio.com/products/products...eel%20Interface

I ran the cables for the iPod into the glove box so the unit stays out of sight. Overall I am very happy with the final result, but still amazed that Hyundai did not put an Aux input in this car…..

Had my oil change done this morning in preparation for the long trip home for the Holidays (Halifax/Montreal) and I was looking at the cars in the showroom.

All Hyundai cars made for a younger crowd have the aux input...Accent, Elantra and Tucson.

What's Hyundai thinking? Old geeeezzzeers like me don't own an ipod?

No aux input in the Sonata, Santa Fe, Azera, Entourage and the Tiburon they had in the showroom didn't have it.

I resorted myself in buying an iMonster wireless....I had tried on another trip and it worked "OK". We'll see this Saturday

Hey gang. I just joined this site and of course I'm as frustrated as everyone here. I called the guy from neocaraudio as soon as I saw that post and he said that the R&D guys have said, and I quote, "they are working on it but I've heard them say that and 3 years later, nothing".
Anyway, i can't afford to spend 1-2k on a gps unit with integrated ipod controlls and the other aftermarket decks are just too small for me to even try to deal with. Can someone tell me what the real deal is with the wired FM Modulators? What is the quality on the best ones like monster? Will it be comparable to a CD input?
The XM radio sounds like garbage to me, no highs at all and if it is going to sound like that then I just won't bother.
What a bummer.
thanks everyone

Hey,

I tried a Belkin Tunebase and the DLO modle and they both behaved badly. The FCC regulates the power the transmitters can have, so only in perfect situations do users generaly get good sound.

You will definately get music in your car if you use any of thses, but it will not do your ipod justice.

I installed a an Alpine 9885 with an Ipod connection. It's a single-din head unit and I was worried htat my dash would look empty withit, but sound trumped cosmetics in th end. The look is actually a bit more flush than the pics below reflect, overall the look is pretty good and reasonably OEM.

I have a thread with pics and my experience with it. The unit is now on sale at Crutchfiled for $249. It's a deal, and the blue/red lighting of the display is almost a perfect match to the blue on the dash and the red needles of the speedo/tach.

Here's the link. Good luck.

Also, is it possible to put an ipod interface into the plain jane cd player? I don't mind loosing the CD player for my iPod. I don't have the changer, just the regular one disc.
thanks,
matt

:w00t:

I have managed to add an 1/8" mp3 port to my 08 Santa Fe Limited. I pulled the radio and got to the second connector on the back where the XM decoder box feeds in its audio to the head unit. I used some wire tap connectors and ran a wire off of each pin (1,2,3) for left, right, and ground; and then to a port that right now is in the glove box.

To use the input, I turn the radio to XM and select channel 000 (the serial number channel) so that there is no output from the XM receiver. I can adjust volume on the head unit or steering wheel, and hook it up to the MP3 player or even to the GPS.

If I were to keep XM (I'm not, we're still in the trial period though) the way it's wired right now, I can hear the XM radio, and then the GPS over-top of XM if it is plugged in...

I have tested this and am using this method right now... But the standard disclaimers apply: If you break something, it's your own fault, don't try to blame me for anything you do.

:amen:

QUOTE(Technikal @ Jul 1 2007, 09:45 AM)
The one I used was from 'XO Vision'.  I found it on ebay for $15.  I had a friend that owns a stereo/alarm shop install it and he wasn't impressed with it - said he preferred Audiovox modulators.

The sound is fine.  No interference or static and infinitely better than the wireless modulator I'd attempted to use before.  Quality is as good as any FM station - which means it's better than XM, imo.  The only complaint I have sound wise is the volume level is a bit low, even though I have the gain turned all the way up.  It's adequate, but the volume differences between sources is annoying.
*

Why is there a volume level issue? I found that running my iPod Touch through a cable with 1/8" Stereo Mini Plug to RCA stereo plugs to play through my home stereo resulted in a less than desirable sound quality and volume. Using a cable with iPod specific 30 pin plug to RCA stereo plugs gives good results, as the headphone amp and volume control on the iPod are bi-passed, resulting in a direct connection. With this setup, only the volume control on the stereo is available.
With car audio we have fewer choices, as only FM transmitters are usually designed with iPod specific 30 pin connectors. I have tried the wireless FM transmitter route and it's unacceptable. Short of electronic surgery, the wired FM modulator seems to be the best solution, except for the 1/8" Stereo Plug connector. If anyone knows of a decent wired FM modulator with the iPod 30 pin connector that also charges the iPod, let us all know.

Seems like some one paid attention to the "madman" post, or is on the same wave-length. Go to the post; " iPod and Hd Radio Interface Beta Testers Needed" by "Peripheral" and you will find a request for Santa Fe owners specifically with the factory sound unit with the XM radio button. I'm certainly interested in this development, as I have no intention of spending C$15 a month to subscribe to XM satellite radio. Meanwhile, I'll burn MP3 CD's to play in the car.

After getting tired of all the non-functional FM modulator solutions I've implemented themadman's solution and all went well (well almost).
So I've disassembled the dashboard and removed the stereo to have good access to the connectors. Shaved small piece of plastic of 3 wires specified in his post (1,2,3 - Red, Green and Brown) bought a 3$ 3.5mm male to female extension cable and cut it in half. Soldered the part of the cable connecting to the female side, to the 3 wires above. Before reassembling I did a test and heard a loud clicking when connected to mp3 player. It looks like the brown wire (3) is not really a ground, at least in my case ,so I un-soldered the ground portion and connected it directly to one of the screws on the stereo itself (chassis ground). The sound quality is pretty good. It's not as scary as it looks and the worst part is removing the stereo and not connecting the wires.
I'll try to post pictures here too.
1st one shows how your console will look like after you take it apart (scary, right? :) the connector you need to work on is in the middle - left one
2nd one zooms on the connector
3rd one shows 3 wires that i shaved the plastic of - again I ended up using only first 2 (red and green) - brown was not a ground for me.
4th - same as above better zoom
5th shows the top box in which I drilled the small hole to run the cable, it also shows the cable itself.
6th shows the ends of the cable soldered to the shaved wires - white in my case is ground (base ring of 3.5mm connector) , Yellow is right (middle ring I think) and red is Left (tip of the connector) I ended up unsoldering white end from brown and just used the screw on the radio itself.
7th same as above
8th put some tape on the cable
9th shows what my cable and connection looks like after I unsoldered the ground from the brown connector and connected it to the screw on the stereo. (black wire is connected to white and screw)
That's it. After that test everything and put everything together if you remember how :))
