Hi everyone. Very useful forum. I've just bought a 2007 Santa Fe. Is there a way to plug in my iPod to the stock stereo? Or, is there a connection at the back that I can hard wire one into?

Thanks.

My son hooks up his iPod to the DVD player in the back and then we set the stereo to the aux position and we can listen to the iPod that way. Hope this helps.

I tried one of the wireless fm modulator/transmitters and it doesn't work too well. The antenna on the Santa Fe is too far away and those little transmitters aren't powerful, and I live in an urban area where there's few unused channels. I can hear the music, but with a fair amount of static. Maybe a hard-wired modulator would be better.

The radio has been my biggest dissapointment with the Santa Fe. The lack of an MP3 jack (maybe XM paid more for that hoping frustrated users would just pony up for a XM subscription?) and the amazingly annoying high frequency cut-out 'feature' make it very frustrating - and the really bad thing is that the factory radio sounds pretty good when it works - making it harder to justify replacing. I don't know why they executed the radio so poorly when most of the rest of the car seems well thought out.

Good morning all,

I like many of you have been looking for a way to use my ipod with the Santa Fe's stock radio.

I called the dealer to see if I could disable my XM radio and use the inputs on the back for an impromptu aux input. They didn't know if it would work as they had never pulled a radio from an 07. Ahhh...

I read in another thread on Edmunds that some dealers are able to install an aux jack in the tray below the ashtray - but I called several dealers around here and they had no idea.

I wanted to keep the dash looking stock but I also wanted great sound and ipod functionality. What to do...

I decided to go aftermarket with the radio. On Friday, 6/1/07 I'm going to have an Alpine 9885 and the ipod control cable installed at a BestBuy near me.

Alpine is beginning a promo on Friday that is offering the cable (usually $30) for free if you purchase either the 9883 (dot matrix screen/2v preouts) or the 9885 (BioLite display/4v preouts).

I bought the wiring harness and a single din w/ pocket mounting kit online as BestBuy does not carry either one yet. If you buy the deck from them, the install is free.

I was going to purchase from Crutchfield and do it myself, but free is free and if I have a problem I can just drive right back to BB.

I owned a previous Alpine (a 9833 w/ ipod control ina 2003 Sonata) and it worked well albeit slowly, and the interface was limited. This is the second generation of Alpine's ipod control and it works far more intuitively than its predecessor. The 9885's screen shows a lot of info - 2 full lines of text. I played with it at BB and it is quite good.

I’ll post pics and links to all of the products I used after the install. Wish me luck!

Cool - I look forward to seeing pics. My biggest resistance to changing units (beside having to spend money on something) is how it will look. I don't miss the days where the color of the lights on the headunit were different from everything else in the car...

I know, I have the same fear that my car is going to be Frankenstinian.

I've seen a couple of single-din installs and they're pretty clean. I think some of the double-din (nav size) installs look a bit tight (I think the Clarion that someone posted pics to is an example of "tight"), as the screen goes all the way to the top of the silver trim below it.

I think his is a 7'' screen, I saw another with a 6.5'' and it looked far better, also the Calrion is silver and looked a little strange in the dash, but the other was black and seemed to blend better with the black dash kit.

I'm hoping for the same result, black radio/black dash kit, and enough negative space between all the panels as not to look to pinched.

We've had our 07 Santa Fe GLS for one month and we love it (sorry, 1st post). One of the only things that I don't like is the lack of an iPod interface. I too tried a FM transmitter and have been disappointed with the reception. I also looked at the aftermarket Alpine solution, but decided to hold off on it for now.

So I was wondering, when the 2008 Santa Fe starts to roll out - when ever that might be - and if it has an iPod interface, would we be able to swap out radios?

Have you tried a cassette adapter. The only good thing about the stereo is that it still comes with a cassette!

US models do not come with casette decks, regardless of trim level/ good thought though.

can anyone tell me if the Canadian GLS comes with a CD changer port on the back, my local car audio experts tell me the can do it (for around $350 installed, not sure if it is an ipod dock, or just an aux port) as long as there is an CD changer port on the back. getting my Santa Fe tomorrow, and would love to hook up the ipod right away.

thanks!

This company claims to develop adapters based on demand. Let's band together...I'm on the waiting list:

I installed an in-line FM modulator. I mounted the jack in the little glove-box thing on top of the dash. The modulator I used is 'auto sensing' - meaning if the device plugged in has power, it switches on - no need for a dedicated switch. I set all the presets on my 'FM2' to match the transmission of the modulator. So now, when I want to listen to my MP3 player, I just plug it in, turn it on, press 'FM2' and it plays. Sound quality is fine. It looks like it was factory installed - except it should say 'AUX IN' in the radio instead of 'FM2'.

My only complaint is why in the **** Hyundai didn't just do this at the factory. It would have probably costs then $0.10 to add a Aux In jack to the front of the radio. I read somewhere where one of the Hyundai guys said they didn't do an ipod/mp3 integration because they were more interested in an 'integrated approach'. I still think they must have gotten a kick-back from XM. Anyway, problem solved now. I'll try and post up some pics of my 'solution' later.

thanks guys, i added my name to the list, doesn't say what timeline or functions it'll have but all i want is a line in.

Technikal, what is the make and model of the FM modulator you got? how is the quality? i may just end up going with one of those, i was by Best Buy a couple weeks ago and see that a company has even developed an ipod specific one that allows charging, and will even send song data to the radio if it accepts it.

The one I used was from 'XO Vision'. I found it on ebay for $15. I had a friend that owns a stereo/alarm shop install it and he wasn't impressed with it - said he preferred Audiovox modulators.

The sound is fine. No interference or static and infinitely better than the wireless modulator I'd attempted to use before. Quality is as good as any FM station - which means it's better than XM, imo. The only complaint I have sound wise is the volume level is a bit low, even though I have the gain turned all the way up. It's adequate, but the volume differences between sources is annoying.

I tried a few of the cheaper FM modulators and was not happy with the results. Ended up getting a Monster FM modulator with built in charging of the Ipod. Sound is very good. Paid around $130

hi Vulcan, not a big fan of the wireless transmitters, but like the idea of having a charger built in. will be going to Best Buy this week to get an in line modulator put in i think, will just be waiting to see what they say as to quality and price.

Can't really commend the transmitter idea either. They're legally limited to too low a power. If you do go for it, you'll want two or three things:

A. A transmit antenna that reaches far enough to be close to your window antenna (assuming you have one). Suggest you measure first.

B. Digital frequency selection. I tried an analog tuned one, but when it drifts off the exact frequency, the receiver rejects it as interference.

C. Adjustable output power so you can run the source device(s) off it on long drives.

Sony's got one with A (almost) and B, but not C. I haven't seen any that hit all three. Good shopping.
