Hi,

I've recently bought a 2.7 V6 Auto Trajet (2001), it's been going very well until recently.

The issue I'm having is inconsistant and does not happen at a specific speed or RPM. The CEL will illuminate and the car will jolt, as if being knocked out of gear, however the gears are still engaged but the acceleration is poor and it seems not to be above third gear. It changes done with no problem.

I noted down some performance figures before and after the CEL came on...

before ...at 60mph the RPM is 2400
after ...at 55mph the RPM is 3000 + poor excelleration

Has anyone experienced this problem and could provide some advice.

Thanks in advance.

If the CEL is up, it mean some sensor is down. Looking your problem, think its time to change the gearbox sensor...bring to a service centre to scan for the exact fault code, it will tells you the fault. :)

CEL = Check Engine Light - when there's fault within the engine management system. :)

Hi purple_nat

Can you tell if your auto. tranny is stuck on third gear . this is

the safe fail gear for the trany . if this the case , then you have

an input or output speed sensor fault , I think .

Let someone read the code , a PO 720 is the output , a PO 715

is the input . Changing any of these is easy and straight forward .

Good luck

Thanks guys for the pointers.

I'll get the car booked in for diagnosis, and then report back.

Thanks again.

Ok just got the car back from dealership and they've reported error codes:

P0715 - Input speed sensor
P0708 - Transaxle range switch

From what I've been reading in the forum, I think the speed sensor sounds like the culprit. How tricky is to locate and replace this item?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi purple_nat

On the auto . tranny . there are 4 connectors . 2 of them are a 10

line type , and 2 are a 3 line type . the 3 line type are for input

and output sensors . the input sensor is the one up to the front

and its connector is vertical , the output connector is horizantal

and hiden underneath the air filter .

Any way you have to remove the air filter housing and a couple

of bolts that are holding the cables . the sensor is fixed by

a 10 mm bolt , removing and installing is dead easy .

The Transaxle range switch is the one that moves by the hand

lever . it sets to P,N,R,D ......... the setting is fed to the

TCM and the indication lights through one of the 10 way

connector . This switch needs alignment once in a while .

there is a small hole in it that aligns with a fixed hole when setting

at N I believe ..

Good luck
