Johnhighlander, I enjoy keeping very accurate records of my fuel and vehicle costs, so my experience may help. I drive a 2004 Terracan with 72300 kilometers on the speedo. I bought it used here in November of 2007. It is a 2.5 L turbo diesel, five speed manual. I live in Costa Rica, in a hilly area of the country at 960 meters, or 3150 feet above sea level. A lot of my driving is on an old secondary highway, that is very windy with slow traffic. My average fuel mileage over the last year is 23 MPG. This equates to 12.3 liters to travel 100 kms. 2old2soon may have miscalculated when he said that 38 MPG is equal to 13 liters per 100 kms. I work that out to 13.45 kilometers per liter or 7.46 L/100 kms. I use imperial gallons for my calculations, not US gallons. The best one tank fuel mileage I have achieved with this car is 27.38. My speedo actually shows about 2 MPH less than my actual speed, according to my GPS. My accumulated mileage seems to be pretty close with the GPS. I hope this helps a bit. Jeff, in Sunny Costa Rica. Cheers.
