Hi crdi owners. My diesel auto was returning between 7 & 8 litres per 100Kms for the first 5000 kms on country running. After 10000 the fuel consumption deteriorated at 30000 I am struggling to get 10 litres per 100Km on the same trips. I had the 30000 service completed today & the dealer said the fuel consumption was within the
allowable figures. My speedo also appears to show 107Kmph when I am only doing 100kmph making the fuel consumption 7% worse than calculated. Is this a common
feature? are we all being conned by inaccurate speedos. I know of many people who
say they are getting X litres per 100Kms but they would not know how to accuratly check their consumption. If you fill to the top & set your trip & fill to the top again to check your consumption & can use a calculator I would really like to hear from you.If you quote mpg or x litres to the tankfull it won't be any use to me. If my consumption is way above the average any suggestions where to start to look? Hyundai are not going to help.
John

I have below 10 l/100 km. at highway and 12-13 liter in city with high traffic. Manual transmission.
I guess automatic transmission add 10-20% consumption and aircon 10% :P

My 2003 2.9 CRDI manual returns a steady 27 mpg which translates as 10.46 litres per 100Km I have never got better than 31 mpg (10.92 l per 100Km) and I got this when I was forced to drive at a steady 50 mph for about 50m by some selfish twit in a lorry on a narrow back road. If you look on the government web site for fuel consumption (VCAcarfueldata.org.uk) you will find they say the Terracan can achieve 38mpg (about 13 l per 100K) but that will be on a rolling road without wind resistance methinks. Recently I fitted the beast with Toyo tyres which, judging by the added road noise are not helping with the fuel consumption! I should add that much of my driving recently has been at motorway speeds which also won't be helping. When I am in France where of course all the diesel is 5% biodiesel my consumption seems slightly better but not much and this might have more to do with the higher ambient temperature. Basically, if we wanted fuel economy we bought the wrong motor.

Hi, my 2006 2.9crdi auto terracan returns an average of 10L to 100km with the boot full of tools and m/c spares mixing high speed motorway/town roads, worst I get is 14L to 100km towing my 1.2 ton caravan with four adults and dog.

Best ever was 9L to 100km at steady 56mph no wind etc.

hope it helps

Johnhighlander, I enjoy keeping very accurate records of my fuel and vehicle costs, so my experience may help.
I drive a 2004 Terracan with 72300 kilometers on the speedo. I bought it used here in November of 2007. It is a 2.5 L turbo diesel, five speed manual. I live in Costa Rica, in a hilly area of the country at 960 meters, or 3150 feet above sea level. A lot of my driving is on an old secondary highway, that is very windy with slow traffic. My average fuel mileage over the last year is 23 MPG. This equates to 12.3 liters to travel 100 kms. 2old2soon may have miscalculated when he said that 38 MPG is equal to 13 liters per 100 kms. I work that out to 13.45 kilometers per liter or 7.46 L/100 kms. I use imperial gallons for my calculations, not US gallons. The best one tank fuel mileage I have achieved with this car is 27.38.
My speedo actually shows about 2 MPH less than my actual speed, according to my GPS. My accumulated mileage seems to be pretty close with the GPS.
I hope this helps a bit. Jeff, in Sunny Costa Rica. Cheers.
