any number of gremlins can cause this problem, often it's the connections under the seats but you will need to go to your dealer to get this sorted on the scanner and to re-set the light. l would not advise you to play around with it yourself because of the danger of one of the air bags deploying

Dear John,

Montego is right, you need to take this to a dealer as it is definitely warranty covered. You don't want to accidentally deply the air bag as they cannot be reused...you would have to replace your steering wheel center.

I have a story about the air bag light in my Tiburon. I had the air bag dash light come on. I keep a first aid kit and a flashlight under the driver's seat. I always clean out the car before I drop it off at the dealer. the dealer checked the connection and said everything was fine. I put the flashlight back in the car and started driving again. The air bag light came back on again. Cleaned out the car and back to the dealer. Dealer finally asked if I have something that might be rolling under the seat and knocking the connector loose. Yes, I normally keep a flashlight under the seat.

Do you have anything that rolls under the seat and hits the air bag wire harness connector???

I am having the same issue as above but i have a 2005 santa fe... The light comes on with the light check when you start the car then goes off for a second or two then stays on. This originally started with it coming on randomly but now it is contently on.

I removed the fuse to the airbag and the light went out then put it back and the light stays on. Is there a way to reset the system to see if maybe its a faulty reading?

Also i noticed you say not to mess with under the seats as that may deploy the airbags. If i take the fuse out and re-seat all the connectors i should be ok right?

Any other ideas would be great... or if someone could find out whether or not a US spec car is covered through European Hyundai dealers... if that is true i wouldn't have to worry about this but i don't think it is...

Any help is much appreciated, thank you

1/ yes if you remove the fuse or disconnect the battery earth lead it will dis-arm the system but wait 5 mins. before you look for bad connections.
2/ the only way to re-set the air bag warning light is on the hyundai scanner (although sometimes they will re-set automatically if the fault is rectified)
3/ as regards your u.s. warranty in italy.....you should be so lucky!

lol... ok well heres the question then... just unplug the airbag fuse or disconnect the battery and then what? just disconnect all connectors and reconnect them under both seats? I assume its under the drivers side seat because the auto on/off passenger airbag indicator on the dashboard still works.

I just don't want to pay 100+ Euro just to get some dude to tell me he re seated something and its fixed...

yes, try all the connections under the seats (they are all yellow in colour) if that does not cure the problem then it's dealer only

Wiggled the connectors were all nice and tight. i couldn't get them to disconnect without possibly breaking something

Montego forgot to answer to this one or maybe he overlooked it.

What he meant was for you to unplug the battery terminal(s), wait for AT LEAST 5 minutes (you should keep it disconnected 15 minutes or so if you are in no rush) and then reconnect it/them back.
By cutting off the power supply ECU's memory gets erased. If after reconnecting the battery and starting the warning light still stays on you should definitely check it through an authorized dealer.

Buona Fortuna! :57:

Ditto to that, our 2005 airbag light on after some magazines and books were stashed under the seat and the seat was moved aft. I checked all the connections first, then disconnected battery to see if fault would clear, however I did not wait long enough by what I have read in your following replies, I will give it one more try before I head back to the dealer.
I also have a 2004 sonata that had the same thing I took to dealer and they said it was loose connection under seat, the second time it happened I tried but didn't know about the fault resdt side of the story and it cost me 99 dollars!
