Sunday I installed a Hyundai Ram Air Kit.. So nice.. And the best thing of it is.. It's blue!!! My car sounds a tad bit more aggressive sounding now when I accelerate. Driving her around today I did notice a bit more power too. I'm happy. If anyone is interested, I do have photos of the step by step installation, although when I was installing it, the Hyundai Directions were very descriptive and we didnt run into major issues. We did have one issue that left us racking our brains when we were mounting the heat shield but it worked out.. Some pics (IMG: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/CaliAngelKitty/intake002.jpg) (IMG: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/CaliAngelKitty/intake001.jpg)

Well I have to admit.. When I left from sacramento at 11pm, it was 80 digrees and by the time I was in stockton it was 95, by the time I reached Fresno at 2pm, it was 100+---SOOOOOOO I was blasting my air conitioner full blast the rest of the way.. I only pushed 32mpg *dodges possible swings* I can tell you it is a small improvment considering I ran 28mpg when using the air on the hwy last time.
I promise on my next trip home, I'll be driving at night, and so I will not use the air. Without the air, no traffic, and perfict weather(no wind to stop me muahahaha), I get close to 36mpg on the hwy without my modification. I am major curious

I can tell you it does sound more agressive on the road, At first I was like 'OMG OMG is it supposed to sound that deep?! Did we install it right?!' I mean the instructions are like so simple we would have to be stupid to mess it up. My boyfriend was like, 'Thats just your intake' ~.~;; I felt silly.
The scan gauge didnt show any issues with the car. She didnt heat up, although her temp wasnt much cooler then before, but as long as t wasnt red hot i didnt care.
Soooo Verna, if you buy one, would you buy it in the blue or silver?

Looks good! Anything that improves the mileage is always on my radar... :) As for rims, I had fun at the tirerack website http://www.tirerack.com/. They have a utility that lets you pull up your car and try different rims on it.

QUOTE(o0kat0o @ May 18 2007, 10:23 AM) okay the time is tomorrow at 5pm. I will be filing up before I get on 99 to head home to Sacramento. Hopefully it will be cooler by then so I won't run my air the whole way. I will fill up right after i get off the Freeway in Sacramento and I will get an actual mpg improvement on her. See if my short ram intake was work the money.
Wish me luck..
no offense.. but in todays cars it doesn't make a difference if you run the ac or not. Also a short ram intake can actually decrease gas mileage due to higher oxygen levels in the intake manifold, hence why it produces more power. You will actually see a decrease in city driving with an intake system due to the system drawing in hot air constantly at stops. On the highway you will see an improvement due to the cold air being pushed under the hood by the force of the wind while you drive. Otherwise you lose gas mileage over all, make more noise, and gain 2 hp over all on the engine... which i suppose on a 110 hp engine, its not a bad first modification. Honestly a performance exhaust system would make a difference on our accents due to the restrictive system they put on it from the factory. Thats when you would start seeing higher mpg and higher power.

I'm not convinced of that at all. Today it was hot enough in Cincy to turn on the air conditioning. That thing was a PIG as long as it was turned on. I HAVE to belive that it would also have an effect on the mileage. Peace, Dan

Some cars honestly get better mileage when you run the ac actually. Since AC is a parasitic accessory all it does is use the already available engine power to turn the compressor.
Also ... ac usage was proven in testing to not affect mileage under 75 mph.
I suppose its not really worth arguing this in a Hyundai Forum where people think a short ram intake is the same as a ram air kit.

Not arguing the cold air/ram air thing at all. I was only commenting (in my experience) that running the AC was putting an extra load on the engine in my Accent. It made a huge difference in acceleration (especially from a dead stop). My mileage was not as good either. Maybe on the highway it would be less evident, but in the city the thing just could't get out of it's own way. Peace, Dan
