ok i'm kinda goign crazy because i only bought this car 3 months ago after having major engine problems with my former car a mistubishi galant and decided to count my losses and get rid of it for a younger car.
The xcel has been great until the last week, when randomly it will loss nearlly all power while driving, almost like it is about to stall and then 3 times now it has done this, and all the warning lights in the dash have flicked on including the hand brake even though it is off, and the foot brake lcoks up and i'm unable to do anything but kinda get the car to drift to a stop and then try and turn the engine off with the key. It scares me when this happens cause if it happen sin bad traffic it will cause a bad accident!

Any idea.. i'm desperate i need my car to be workign and reliable!

Hi Honey,

Does your car only stall when its warmed up? other than that has it been running fine? after it has stalled does it crank over but wont start up again until its cooled down? could be the CAS(crank angle sensor), i've heard that these can breakdown when they heat up causing the car to randomly stall. if so you can grab a second hand dizzy from a wreckers and try it out. :57:

Okay.. my dad had a tinker with things and the stalling stopped and it was working ok, and then suddenly we had gear issues where it was thinking park was reverse and had to be jump started from in 'Drive' position.. my dad also had a look at this and foudn the box thing was loose and just jumping all over hte place, something like that, However while he was working out this problem, another began.. And now the only problem i have with my sick little car lol, is a power or electrical problem.
Stereo and accessories will only switch on when u acutally turn on the ignition and start the car. (Very annoying) and while driving, the power sorta surges, such as it loses powers and lights in the dash fade out and the car loses power, and then it will come back again..

Any explanations, Me and my dad are both stumped!

there seam to be a power supply problem; let's try the basics first

1) check the battery condition

2) move the main ground connection from the starter bolt to the next bolt up, were the tranny is bolted to the engine block

3) remove the main battery cable from the starter, and apply solder (acid type) to the terminal, it is only crimped on.

Ah i've had advancements at last, Seems my battery is in need of replacement as it still is having little spasms with its power, but the main cause of hte problem was a blown alternator fuse. YAy.. cheap to fix.

Car is still so sensitive with the gearstick position in 'park', when trying to start the car, you gotta jiggle it a little, anyone got any tips, so i can get this working better.

btw thanks duke for ur surggestions.
