Hi All,

With fuel prices hitting 90p/ltr just now I have been wondering how to improve my fuel economy.

I normally cruise on the motorway at 75mph ish, and in a good week get maybe 320 miles out of a fully topped off tank. This would include some urban short journeys too.

So, I reduced my top speed to 65mph, still accelerating upto 75mph should the need arise, ie to avoid a hazard or overtaking safely, but returning to 65 afterwards.

I haven't changed the way I accelerate or brake or made any modifications to the car, haven't even reset the ECU.

I'm now achieving 425-435 miles on a full tank.

I have not done any calculations to determine cost per mile but the improvement seems obvious!

Maybe this is just an illusion?

It just seems a huge improvement for a 10mph reduction in cruise speed.

Regards

G

I also drive about 35-45 min daily at 70-75mph and get about 320 miles out of a full tank. Unfortunately during the last week I was getting just 220 miles out of a full tank. Check Engine light was on but couldn't get any reading of the computer. I fixed the computer, and was able to get the reason for check engine light. The reason was faulty spark plug cables. I am now getting the 320 miles again.
