Hi
I'm having a nightmare with my 2.5 V6 1999 (UK Spec) at the moment and need some sound advice as to what might be wrong please.
After driving for around 10 minutes the rev counter seems to become eratic and flick down to zero and then back up every now and then, at the same time i am no longer able to use my kick down as the car revs but the counter stays where it is and there is no acceleration. Also when i come to a stop in "D" - drive, the car jolts violently as if i have slammed the breaks on. The gearbox feels like it is trying to slow the car down most of the time. Normally the car runs ok until it seems it gets warm.
I hope, and i am sure some of you will have experienced or heard of this before and that it doesnt mean a write off for my gearbox!!!
Really hope someone can help - need to fix asap.

Thanks

I too have had my tachometer flick in and out. More times then not it does work but sometimes it will go to 0 and have no noticeable affect on the vehicles performance. I have heard it could be a noise filter gone bad and or the wires on the tranny having a bad connection. I have had a output speed sensor replaced which was cousing erratic engine bucking and that is resloved now. Kinda felt like my power was low. Do you have any codes yet. Did the CEL come on?

no lights come on at all and i have no way of getting any codes etc. I was just looking for some possible answers before i put it in the garage to be sorted so i might have some idea. I still feel its something to do with gearbox due to the fact that from cold start everything is perfect and the lack of power and rev counter "bucking" are connected.

Ran the codes and found a faulty Camshaft position sensor - Having it replaced on Monday - hope this does the job.

Thanks for your posts guys! I have exactly the same problem on a 1999 2.5 V6(UK model). Took it to an auto electrician and the code that came back was the camshaft position sensor so I am hoping that will fix it - do you remember how much it cost you? (in UK pounds:)

Cheeky gits at my local Hyundai garage quoted me £223 for a new sensor so I went onto Ebay and found a brand new original from Korea for under £30 inclusive of express delivery so it should be here in a few days - hope it cures the stalling problem!

well, problem was fixed for a few weeks but unfortunately has reappeared this week along with the jolting problem gary mentioned which I didn't have before?? Must be something else which is causing the problem I think, have not run the codes yet but am going to get my own reader as the auto electrician charged me £30 last time!
