I believe I'm getting close to finding out why after 4 02 sensors were replaced, my check engine light is still on, and my car is stalling and I have engine pinging and spark knock. I finally got a code that means "EGR flow insufficient." A reputable mechanic told me the EGR valve is likely clogged with carbon. Question is, could it also be a problem with the EGR solenoid? He said to replace the valve, and if that doesn't work, we'll replace the solenoid. Makes sense. Has anyone gotten an EGR valve from anyone other than the Hyundai dealer? Advance auto has it for $66.89 and autopartspeople.com has it for about $54.00.

I had the EGR valve replaced by a friend and the check engine light came back on with the same code and a couple of others that pointed to the MAF sensor. That's when I looked on line at the Hyundai site and found that there was a technical services bulletin about the MAF sensor.

In short, I complained to Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the General Manager of the dealership I was dealing with and they replaced the MAF sensor, throttle body actuator, there were also a couple of sensors that they replaced, they did a major tune-up, and I haven't had a problem with the check engine light since. Now, I have had the same growling noise when the engine is cold, but I think that it may be something to do with the condensor or another a/c belt.

There are so many different sensors that you can replace one and you end up getting codes for one or two more following that replacement.

Hopefully it will. When I replaced the EGR valve, the stupid check engine light came back on within 15 miles! My car had some other issues that have now resolved the check engine light. (I hope)
