I have set the bass on my radio to '10' but still doesnt sound as if there is enough bass, anyone else notice? You wouldn't think there is a subwoofer on the sysyem!

Thank god it's not just me, I was about to write a similar post myself!

I gone so far as re-reading the manual to make sure there isn't an option somewhere to enable the sub. I was even going to check that one of the leads hadn't rattled away from the speaker!! Unfortunately I couldn't find a way of getting to in the time I had, I will have to have another go soon..

What I have noticed is that when you have the EQ preset "Rock" selected (which has a bass setting of 5) the bass is much stronger than when you have the bass up to 10 without the EQ switched in! Unfortunately the presets are awfull :(

I hope there is some sort of solution or maybe an aftermarket unit that will fit, I'm getting tired of listening to 5 live and other non-music stations...

I find myself lusting after one of the aftermarket units with the power out DVD screen.....At the end of the day most stock stereos just don't cut it and there are a lot of aftermarket items that will sound way better for much less money than the stock items. For me one of the real killers is a lack of an aux in/iPod connector.

What kind of songs are you playing? I used to be into techno music, and I had a handful of songs to use as standards for judging bass quality. (Of course what sounds good for one song might be different with rap or classical music.)

I suggest you download the song "PhD" by the The Crystal Method. Play it in the car - and block your ears at 30 seconds!

If it doesn't break up distorted and rattling, then I wouldn't worry too much. If it does, then it's probably not a very good system.

I agree completely. I've got the wizz-bang high-end Infiinity system and it sounds like there's no subwoofer in the system at all. Or, any mid-range, for that matter.

I've checked all of my speakers to see if they are working and they all are.

My wife pointed out to me that this lack of bass response problem seems only to be an issue with the radio, i.e. when listening to music via FM or XM radio. Any time we play a CD on the car's audio system it sounds great... all the bass and mid-range comes alive. Anything coming through the air, however, has just really poor fidelity.

Try this comparison between over-the-air radio and CD payback response and see if you hear the huge difference that we hear.

We also have the rear seat entertainment system. I played my "Eagles Fairwell Tour I" DVD through that system and the sound just rocked!

I'm guessing that all this means that the radio receiver in the stereo head unit is just of really poor quality.

Any of you audiophiles out there have any other ideas on what might be causing this?

your right, the cd is real bass with a cd. I have a revo DAB which also produces more bass than the radio.

I was gonna add a subwoofer and amp to my car. I just have the standard CD player in my Limited. Where is the Subwoofer located with the upgraded stereo. My thinking is that its easier to add a subwoofer in that standard location than to have a big box taking up space in the cargo area. Do we have any schematics of the upgraded stereo system?

The subwoofer is located behind the left side panel in the rear cargo area.

I would think that in a Limited not equipped with one, there would be a knock-out cover panel at that same spot in place of a speaker grill panel.

Correct. I have a Limited with the standard stereo and there is a knock-out panel on the left side panel in the rear cargo area.

I've been considering this same project. If anyone gives it a try, let us know how it goes.

Of course we had so many stereo options to chose from here in Canada......can you say 1.....
So I now have the Clarion MAX675DV 7" double din screen in there, with my Sirius hooked up again, and an 80gb Ipod Video in the glove box. The MAX675 has a great on-screen IPOD control centre, that aside from a search mechanism is just like using your ipod. You just control it from the touchscreen,
also added a 10" Boston sub. System doesn't sound as good as what I had in my Jetta with their stock speakers, but I had a time phased clarion headunit, that seemed to make the music just float by your head. Great sounding, but my son has it now..;(

I have the Monsoon stereo in my Jetta with the Phatbox.....I have been enjoying that so the stock Santa Fe stereo is on my list of things to change.

I've been considering installing the Clarion unit as well. Could you give us any insights into how you installed the sub? Did you add an additional amplifier, etc?

Any pictures of your install?

Added a seperate amp for the sub woofer. Amp is located under the front passenger seat. Rest of speakers off the Clarion.

Sort of think it would be neat to get the centre front dash speaker and grill and replace that little storage bin on the Canadian models. Just not sure what a car sound like with a front centre dash speaker.

My US version has the same storage bin. Where would you wire the center speaker? To your additional amp or could you run it off the Clarion?

As far as the sound, I test drove one that had the Infiniti system that has the center speaker. It sounded great. The trick would be setting it up as a true center channel for DVD playback.

I am about to upgrade the v poor standard head unit to the Alpine 202R double din head unit. I think I will change the sub at the same time. It sounds like the speakers are ok but the sub is poor. I will fit an amp as well, it is goin in on the 5th June. Watch this space.
