I recently bought a 2000 Sonata V6 GLS. Only 51,000 miles but it may not have been cared for properly. I just had a speed sensor replaced, now 30 miles later the CEL is on again.

So I took it to Autozone: p1134 and p0153; did a quick search on this site and see that now I should get my oxygen sensors replaced.

any idea how much this repair is going to set me back? Should we still drive the care until we get it fixed or just let it sit to avoid additional issues?

Also, any idea why these codes didn't show up earlier when the car was with the dealer? Is there a limit to how many codes show up at a time? This is a pain to take the car back in and I can't get an appointment for about a week

thanks
Gary

The P1134 code doesnt seem to work for Hyundai.
The P0153 is O2 Sensor CKT Slow Response (Bank 2 Sensor 1).
I'm not 100 percent sure, but I dont think is a limit on how many codes can be displayed. I've had up to 5 on the scanner.

02 sensors are about 100 dollars for parts and easy to replace-disconnect the electrical connector and then loosen the senser with a socket specially made for that in which you can get at any auto parts store. My speed sensor went out as well but they were covered under warranty as well as the 02 sensors but yours is getting to that age where its prolly not covered but its worth the call. I thought they had issues with the sensors and if they were bad they would replace them if not they wouldnt. You need to find out which 02 sensor it is to get the correct one on order and I went to the dealer for mine and they asked for my vin to get a match for the sensor when it went out again. I wouldnt drive too long on it for one you can waste gas for 2 i heard it can make other things go bad if left too long but ive seen people drive years with it on and they know its the 02 sensor. Sometimes i disconnect my battery to clear my codes and they dont come back right away everytime. I have had a few codes at the same time so i think that depends on the reader that was used, just ask Autozone how many it can read.

There is a TSB for the 2000 Sonata, were the O2 sensor has to be replaced with a newer type, and the ECM must be reprogrammed.

If you decide to replace the oxygen sensors, and you are replacing one or both of the upper ones, go to the dealer, they are cheaper there. The upper oxygen sensors list at $39.03/ea. Much cheaper than anything you can buy from the aftermarket. Dealers are allowed to charge whatever they want, and 98% of them charge more than list price, so expect to pay more than that. I can do $29 plus shipping on them if you want.

Hi

I have high NOX on 2001 Sonata V6 and found a TSB to change the O2 sensors. I can change the sensors myself but the issue is how can I re-program the ECM myself? What if I just change and don't reprogram...will I pass the smog in that case?

Thanks

Hey pa_arora, I would call the dealer to see if they would cover it. It was a TSB and all of my TSB's that afected my car were covered. They told me about the 02 sensors and one failed and according to the TSB/Dealer they would only change the one that failed, they wouldnt change all of them even though the TSB said they were all affected. Basically if it failed the TSB told them to replace only the failed ones.

okie, posting reply to my own question, since no one here replied. This may help someone else searching for the issue.

I wanted to change the O2 sensors because of the high NOX in Smog problem.

Gave the car for diagnostic to a local mechanic..he said B2S1 oxygen sensor is bad. replaced the sensor witha bosch sensor and did NOT re-programe the ECM.

The car passed with flying colors.

So you do not need to re-programe the ECM, my feeling is re-programming is like a fixpack, which is good to have but not mandatory to have.

hope the car runs well with the Bosch sensor.
