Well what else do the "Hyundai Transmission Specialists" have to say.
Maybe if they think that the theory that is put forth at the moment is wrong, then why not tell us what it is.

It becomes pretty difficult to render someones information as being useful if they disagree with your theory and then do not put one forth themselves!!! :angry:

that's dephi for you, always arguing with the specialists. For your info:
1st = rear clutch & sprag clutch applied when g-lever it in "D" or 2
1st = rear clutch & low-reverse brake applied when lever is in "L"
2nd = rear clutch & K/D-brake
3rd = rear clutch, front clutch & end clutch
4th = end clutch & K/D-brake

now figure out for yourself what the problem is.

sorry, I screwed up on the 3rd & 4th gear

:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Duke, I looked in the workshop manual and it says nothing about the sprag clutch for "d" or "2".
I know what a spragg clutch is but do you know exactly what action it performs in this instance??? I just wanna know.
When I get back to work though I am going to have a look in the Automatic transaxle overhaul maual and see if i can identify the clutch!

SOULLINK: Sorry to do this Dr Hundi, but please do not quote the whole thread in the box above when replying to it.

Duke, let me ask you this first....

Are you currently working as an automotive technician at an authorized Hyundai dealership in Canada?

Yes or No?

sorry, the sprag clutch is a the type name for the one-way clutch; the tumblers have the shape like a figure '8"

Soulink, apologies, I had not meant to quote what I had quoted.
But in relation to that topic, there are quite a number of people who quote a whole reply as a reply message post???????? :huh:

SOULLINK: I know - I'm working through all the posts at the mo editing them - but I'm only getting rid of quotes of the post immediately above a users reply if they quote the whole thing

Duke you have stopped him in his tracks, bloody speechless! :lol: :lol:
Yes, maybe I have not explained myself properly.
I know of all types of Spragg clutches, I know of the complete working functionalities, I have even replaced a stator Spragg.
I just wanted to know where there was one in the transmission and what it's purpose was in the application that it is being used.

Once again,.......stopped him dead!!! :lol:

you can feel the one-way cluch yourself, by doing this:
pull away from stop (max 5kmph) like you are behind a car in front of you, but the car in front is not pulling as fast as you do, so you lat go of the accelerator = the car now free-weels without decalaration untill you accelerate again or the tranny shifts into 2nd (speed depending).
On the new generation tranny (were the oilpan is on the side of the tranny), the first +-4month production EF Sonata 1999 did not have a one-way clutch. This caused the car to decell when driving under those conditions, and the one-way cluth was added again in +- mid march 1999.

Hmmmmm... very interesting Duke, very interesting indeed.
Now that you mention it, I already knew that the tranny freewheels, just did not occur to me that it was a spragg that was doing this.

Top of the class Duke! :lol:

also, find out what a reman tranny would cost at your Hyundai dealer.

I start off in L because if i start off in drive tt reves up and barley I mean barley moves. SO i shift it to L it crunches and slowly goes and as it first starts off going it hesitates and crunches and goes... then once I fell it needs to go into a higher gear, shift it to drive it takes it a min. but it finally decieds to switch gears and crunches. Once I have to come to a stop right before I compleatly stop I feel it fall.
The whole time Im driving the car shakes like vibrates. I dont know if thats just how theses cars are or if thats part of the problem.
thanks/

sorry, something more than just the sprag-clutch is gone. I would not drive the car anymore, it may leave you stranded somewhere.

I was wondering if theres anything I can buy to put in my tranny to make it work? Lke some kind of 'tranny fix ...stop slips" or something like that? I have seen stuff like that at auto zone.. does that work?
