Hi!

I just installed a Sony head unit in my '03 Sonata. During the process I determined there is an amplifier somewhere in the factory system. I determined that by not hearing any sound when I initially wired the new radio. In a nutshell, I figured out the wiring and got it hooked up using the pre-amp outputs on the Sony. My question is, is this the correct way to wire a new aftermarket stereo in the Sonata? It sounds good this way but I still want to be sure that I did it right? If I were to use the speaker level outputs on the Sony, would it overpower the amp?

I used to know all this stuff but old age has crept into my brain. Thanks for the help in advance!

do yoursel the favour, and have a electronic/radio tech install the radio. He will know best what to by-pass or not.

I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata LX. I have installed an aftermarket amp and radio, and guess what? No sound. I did not know there was a factory installed amp in this car. Can anyone tell me where it is? I have no idea what it looks like. I need to somehow bypass it. Has anyone tried doing this before? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

It's in the trunk on the right side. You have to remove the trunk liner.

I swear that Duke is paid by Hyundai to push all work to a tech.

Find the wires that run to the speakers, and connect to them directly. The wiring diagrams are more than likely available in the manuals (service) as well as sites like crutchfield, hmaservice etc.)

Your in luck....i am a sound tech and that job is so simple. Just run new wiring directly to the speakers and dont use the factory wiring but do check that the speakers are 4ohm rated.

I have a 2004 Sonata trying to bypass an amp. If I run new wires directly to the speakers, can I keep the factory wiring for the power? How can you check if the speakers are 4ohm rated? Also, if I sent new wires to the speakers, would i have to remove door panels, seats, or anything else that's tricky? Thanks for the help.

I have a 2003 Sonata GLS, does anyone know the specs on the factory amp? I am thinking that if the factory amp has enough power I would like to splice a single 10" non-powered sub into the amp to add a little more bass without the hassle of installing and aftermarket amp. Already have the sub from a previous vehicle and need to watch my costs because a baby is on the way.
