Problem: I changed from winter-tires to allround-tires today and noticed a small yet irritating whining sound when I use gear 4 and hits the gas-pedal. It immediatley stops when I lift my foot from the pedal and starts when I push it again.

I don't think it's serious in anyway, but I really want to know what it can be.

Anyone? All suggestions are welcome.

it sounds to me like you have answered your own question, it is very likely to be the tyres. some tyres can cause a whineing noise very much like a worn wheel bearing. if you have different make of tyres on the front and back try changing them over and see if it makes any difference. if you have just bought the tyres new l would go back to the tyre shop and talk it over with them to see if they will change them

Also, ask them, if they have not already done one, to do a WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING. I had a similar problem when some time back, I installed wheel spacers to fit in my brakes caliper covers.

An alignment with the purchase of new tires is suggested for the following reasons:

1. When your vehicle is in alignment you are preventing premature tire wear. This translates to $$ saved in the long run by not having to buy tires as frequently.

2. All vehicles' suspensions wear over a period of time, by having your alignment checked periodically you can prevent a worn part from becoming a broken or failed part.

3. By keeping your car aligned you can increase your gas mileage and tire life.

4. Last but not least, your mechanic/garage should provide you with a printout showing your alignment specs before AND after any adjustments have been made. Ask your salesperson/technician/manager to explain the printout and how it will affect your vehicle. Most shops will offer not to charge you if no adjustments were needed.

Cheers!

Can someone give me the alignment specs (caster, camber, toe-in-toe out, etc.) for my 1.6 GL automatic Matrix? My warranty is out and I just bought a new set of tires so I intend to bring my vehicle to a non-dealer alignment shop.

I rotate my tires every 10,000k but I noticed on my old tires that the wear was on the inner side, as if there was extreme negative camber. This probably because my dealer botched the front suspension repair before the warranty expired and Ihad to have the components tightened at another shop.
