I don't have the hatch, I have the GLS sedan. Same thing, just more doors and without the sporty suspension compared to the SE. In short, I couldn't have asked for a better car.
Here's how I see it...
Pros: - smooth and quiet powertrain, good fuel economy - comfy ride yet still handles well - excellent braking - very quiet at cruising speed - a crapload of cup holders! - reliable - great stock stereo - plenty of adjustments on the driver's seat, and the armrest - heated mirrors! (that's a big favorite of mine) - build quality is better than cars I paid thousands more for, no squeaks or rattles anywhere - overall, what you get for the money is heard to beat
Cons: - lacks cruise, which doesn't bother me a a bit, although some can't go without having cruise
Whether the engine has enough pep will always vary from person to person, I kinda think it does - not really any slower than my last car was, and it had 130 HP but was heavier. The only times I've found myself wanting more have usually been when trying to climb huge hills. But even with the auto, it has sufficient power and can cruise all day at 80 if you need it to.
May will mark one year with this car, and I just hit 23,000 miles the other night. :o Easily racking up twice and then some of what they say the average American is supposed to. It has just needed gas, oil changes, and tire rotations thus far for the most part. The only mechanical issue I've had was trivial - the power steering belt squealed after a cold start, they took a few minutes to tighten that up at the dealer and that was that. The only other warranty items were a fuse box door that kept popping open which had to be replaced, and a small amount more wind noise on the passenger's side than the drivers that most people probably wouldn't have noticed, but I did. They ordered the window seal and replaced it, no questions asked. Really, not bad at all for a first model year effort, Hyundai did their homework. The last first model year car I bought had to be in the shop at minimum, once or twice a month. I'm picky as heck about cars, yet somehow I can't find much to complain about with this one and that says a lot.
Hyundai has really impressed me - they've treated me very well during and after the sale, quite a change compared to the nightmare that was my experience with GM. This has been a great car, I don't see it having any trouble making it to and above the 100,000 mile mark. I went ahead and bought the extended warranty from Hyundai to extend the bumper-to-bumper part to 100,000 just in case so I'm completely covered. I've been anal about the maintenance it gets, so that will probably be a big help in the long run.
Anywho, I guess what I'm trying to say is the Accent rocks. Hope you can get it!
