Hey Divoff,

I'm no expert on Open Port Air Induction System. But here's the thing.... I did make enquiries about it.

I went to this place called Silent Pro Shop at Commonwealth. Their Open Port is really cheap. It's about S$290 for the system (including installation). It is Carbon Fibre as claimed by its Taiwan manufacturer. It is called SIMOTA.

I was tempted till 'Ah Hua' explained what needs to be done to install the whole system. Yes! It's the removal of your entire current stock Air Induction System! The Air Filter Box, the drop in filter, the tubing and others!

The thing, Divoff, is whether you are willing to let your "Pride and Joy" undergo this 'operation'? I own a 2004 Matrix and I can tell you, "I'm certainly not!"

It's scary cos it may mean that Car warranty may be affected. And you drive a 2006 Matrix! What if something goes wrong with the installation? I think there is a warranty on the product itself but if this system affects your engine, I don't think Komoco will look too favourably in honouring their warranty. Remember that Air Induction affects the combustion in your engine and if this flow is affected even by a little, this may mean Carbon build up in your engine!

OK.... I may be a bit paranoid and I'm sure there are better systems around with quality assured mechanics. But do we really need to install an open port Air Induction System in our Matrix? Is it a bit of an overkill? I can't really justify it if we own maybe a WRX or Evo for racing or competitive 'drifting' purposes.... But Matrix? On Singapore roads? Furthermore, if you do change your car, the tubing and even Air Filter attachment is made specifically for that Brand, year and Model of car.... Unless you change to another similar model Hyundai Matrix, you can't really bring it over to your new car!

I leave it to you, of course, and the above is only my personal opinion. But there are many other less invasive ways to encourage Air Induction into your engine. I know an expert in this forum that can help. Why don't we join BABYMATRIX at "What I have done so far to my ride"? He offers the best advise cos he got it in his very own car (that he affectionately calls, "Xiao Hong"). AND he is quite patient with us, "Greenhorns" too!

:57:

Cheers!

P.S.- No offence to owners that have already installed an Open Port in their Matrix. This is just my personal opinion. The picture below is not of a Hyundai Matrix but it pretty much gives you an idea of what will be removed to install an open port. The second picture shows the actual SIMOTA OPEN AIR PORT INDUCTION SYSTEM that will be installed into our car. No endorsements made.
