Perhaps someone can shed some light on this situation for me.
I purchased my 2006 Hyundai Accent GLS brand new, and at 11,000 KM's the CD got stuck in the cd player. I figured, no problem. I'll just take it down to the dealer and have them remove it since it's brand new.
When I got to the dealership, they started giving me a hard time about the CD stuck in the cd player. Apparently the cd/mp3 player can't handle CDR's. This poses my question ; How in the **** can it be a CD/MP3 player if it can't handle CDR's???? They don't sell store bought CD's that have MP3's on them. Retail CD's sell music in the CD format, not MP3. At least, I've never heard of store bought MP3's on a CD.
At first I thought they were trying to wiggle out of fixing it for me, however the service department kindly pointed out in the manual where it stated that the cd player didn't support CDR's or CDRW's. Ok, the CDRW's I could understand.....but if not CDR's, how can it support MP3's?
Long story short they did replace the CD player with a new unit, at the expense of one of my CDR's (they couldn't get it out!). I'm not so miffed with losing my CDR as I am confused about this whole CD/MP3 situation. Has anybody come across this before???

Yeah, those guys are full of it! I don't see the record companies willing to go out there and master a disc of a couple hundred of your various tunes just for you, me, or anyone else! lol We don't have the unit you've got in the states (you've got the 1/2 DIN right?) but for the double DIN M445 (that we so conveniently can't get here, but they tell us how to work it so they can tease us about what we can't have) goes as follows: QUOTE * Do not stick paper or tape etc., on the label side or the recording side of any discs, as it may cause a malfunction.
* The unit cannot play a CD-R(Recordable CD) and CD-RW (Rewritable CD) that is not finalized. Please refer to the manual of CD-R/CD-RW recorder or CD-R/CD-RW software of more information on finalization process.
* Depending on the recording status, some CD-Rs/CD-RWs may not be played on this unit. So basically, according to what that stuff says, it could do the dealer some good to RTFM before they go jumping on a customer's case. Provided you're not using any labels, which tends to wreak havoc on the innards of these players, the problem is likely with the radio itself, not your disc. A regular CD that you went out and spent twenty bucks for can end up getting stuck, had that happen a time or two myself. It just happens that this time, you had a CD-R in there - but that's not what caused it. The only real issues that you could have with burned stuff is with not burning it correctly, media problems on the disc, etc. I run CD-R's in the base single disc unit that came in my Accent, been doing that since day 1. Never ran into a problem other than discs being all beat up. I don't use CD-RW's in it, not sure if it plays those or not. The manual advises against CD-RW's in the other (non-MP3 capable) units. Hopefully you'll have something similar in your manual - and if so go show them!

Right now I'm really miffed. I was driving to work today listening to a RETAIL AUDIO CD and all of a sudden I hear this loud electrical interference type of sound blasting through my speakers and then all of a sudden, my sound went out completely.
I was able to remove my CD, but I have NO SOUND WHATSOEVER. The radio turns on, and if I put the CD back in the display reads CD and the seconds seem to accumulate, indicating that it's playing however NO SOUND.
I've made yet another appointment to my dealership. I paid for this brand new car (and will continue to pay for 6 friggin' years) so it better work! But what I will say is this ; this will be my second time having the peice of sh*t CD/MP3 player replaced. If it dies again, I'm just going to go aftermarket. Warranty issue or not, I've got better things to do than to waste my flippin' time sitting at a dealership, trying to keep my 5 year old son from running around the place and driving me even MORE crazier than when I first walked into the dealership.

Oh, that stinks! :(
These cars don't have an external amp anywhere do they? I don't remember if I saw clearly on Hyundai's online service thingy whether they did, but on the Rio - same car, same radios, it showed one somewhere in the right rear quarter. I don't think we have an amp, but if we did, I'd say check the fuse!
But sounds like you've unfortunately ended up with a (er, two) bum unit(s.) :( I've been there, the last car had four factory radios as well as the external amplifer for said factory radio kick the bucket. I eventually got the idea to go aftermarket, then traded the car two months later. But kept the aftermarket radio, although never put it in this car. Not having a radio is pretty miserable!
Tell them to fix it, or... :gunsmilie: lol! Good luck, I hope your frustrations are over with soon!

I swear to God, the a**holes at Hyundai of Mississauga don't know what they're doing!!!!! I went in on Tuesday morning (yesterday) and they replaced the head unit (again) making this the third unit in my car ; 1) The first being the original that came with my car 2) The second being when they replaced it the first time 3) The third when they replaced it again. When they put the third deck in yesterday, they cracked the frickin' facia panel on my car! When the gentlemen told me they had cracked the faceplate in my car, needless to say I was not happy. He went on to say "We'll replace it at no charge as a warranty repair." No fu**in' kidding. I'm sorry, but now this is out of hand. They keep pushing me, and pushing me...and now I have no choice but to write them a letter! And for those of you laughing, beleive you me...the power of the written word is a LOT stronger than rasing your voice of cussing someone out. I asked the gentlemen who makes these awesome radio units. Of course... Hyundai Mobis makes them. Crappy crap crap CRAP!!!! :whistling: Sorry. Had to get that out of my system. So...long story short, I will be calling these boneheads at Hyundai of Mississauga (today) to ask when they'll have my poor Hyundai's facia panel in stock. One thing is for sure, Hyundai of Mississauga has just lost a customer. After they replace the damages they've caused, I'll be taking my business to a closer by dealer. After I write them my letter, I'm going to post it on this site so you guys can see what I had to say, and I'll keep you updated on how they're treating this situation. I'm probably blowing this out of proportion. I admit it. But when you're angry, you're angry. I'll try to keep my letter as calm and collected as possible ; Dear but*heads...

Some more advice, I've been there done that with HMC and I busted their balls that they hated the sight of me. I always got what I wanted, being breaking them. And guess what now I'm good friends with the head of HMC aust that he gives me proper advice and ask me for my opinion on their cars.
Anyway, do this contact the manufacturer of the stereo, if it is truly a hmc unit then contact the repair centre, speak to them tell them your issues and blast them, delears will only exchange the units, remember they never replace with new, EVER.....
As for your face plate, photograph it and send it to hmc with your letter, tell them they are accountable for the rattle you will hear for the lifetime of the car and you would like it replaced according to factory standards, which is silicon, on foam clips.
Speak to the dealer principle if you purchased the car from them and blast him/her for the incompetence you have endured.
With my old 1997 excel that I sold back to them... I had a stereo cassette, defective after three shots, so I scored a cd player, replaced twice, compensated with free cd's, engine loom rewire, new rear garnish coated in polyurethane to prevent fading, respray of hatch, new tyres, new instrument cluster, engine remount to prevent rattles, free servicing, loan cars, extended warranty, new external mirrors because they faded. There is more.... All this in the first 12months I had the car, Oh also I scored free factory aircon installed. I scored all this because I had a lemon, and i am so fussy about it, that it cost HMC heaps to repair, that when th original warranty expired they opened the champagne to celebrate, later offering extended warranty which they returned when they had agreed to upgrade me to the 2000 accent with minimal changeover.
So a little patience will go a long way. Good luck.
