does the problem still exsist? if so try this first, dis-connect the battery earth lead for five mins. and then re-connect, this will re-set the system. if that does not work it may be the input or output speed sensor but you will need your dealers help for that

this is exactly what happened to my car at the beginning of the year, picked it up at the dealer and going along the road.
there was a small bang and the car dropped back into 3 and stayed there.

I limped the car back to the dealer, and they said it was dignoised at first to be a sensor on the transmission they changed this and teh problem was still there.

Finially after 2 weeks they changed the transmission and every thing is now working fine.

Hope this isnt bad news.

you will need to have the fault codes read on the hyundai scanner, hopefully it is just the input or output speed sesor, there could be other issues. what is the mileage on the car? has the transmission oil ever been changed?

I have a 2001 XG30 and have the same problem with it getting stuck in 3rd. It has a P0715 error code input/turbine speed sensore circuit malfunction. How do I fix it?

the input speed sensor is fitted directly on top of the gearbox, its easy to change but not all that cheap. this may cure your problem. what's the mileage? has the trans. fluid ever been changed? does the fluid look burnt or black? (brown is the natural colour

Montego is right: When in doubt, change the trans fluid. When not in doubt, change the trans fluid.

The consensus as I understand it is to replace both the input and the output sensors at the same time because you can get a code (for example) the input sensor when the output sensor is the problem. I'd buy a set of sensors from Fourgreen from eBay, it's pretty cheap insurance for around $80 and it would rule out that problem:

Thanks guys. It's been serviced and MOT'd recently and the trans fluid was changed. I'll get a couple of sensors from over here and hopefully that'll be it.

Probably real expensive for you UK guys. I think Fourgreen will ship to UK.... let's see. It doesn't say, but I'm sure they send it to UK.
