Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have already had great luck searching the posts. I have a quick question that maybe someone can easily answer.

I have a 1987 Excel. I changed the thermostat about a year ago with no problems. Okay - my boyfriend did it but I watched and held stuff. ;-)

Anyway, in the last week the car has occasionally been overheating. It has enough coolant but I think there might be air in the line. Is there a bleed valve somewhere? I'm sure my boyfriend would appreciate any suggestions!

THANKS!

there is no bleed screw, if you have overheating problems you will need to look elsewhere i.e. is the electric fan working, faulty thermostat, blocked radiator, head gasket leaking

BTW welcome to the forums :00000732:

Thanks for the info. I know the fan is working but I'll check out the other things you mentioned.

Well, I changed the thermostat and it appeared at first to be fixing the problem. But then a couple days later it started to overheat again. I don't have any leaks. I would like to flush the radiator first and then I think we'll check the water pump.

remove the radiator cap and start the car. When it reaches the thermostat's tempature, you will see the coolant circulate thru the radiator's filler hole. If it don't circulate, it's a sign that the water pump may be faulty.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try that this weekend. My boyfriend said he thought it might be the water pump. We'll find out.
