Hi guys I have a newly developed problem with my Terracan and was wondering if anyone else has had the same and if so what was it??

My Terracan is a 2.9 diesel auto and my problem is that when I brake sharply and come to a complete stop and leave the car in drive there is a lot of vibration through the car and this persists on picking away. If I ease off the brake after coming to a stop just slightly there is a thump from under the car as if something has released and the vibration disappears.

If I brake normally there is no problem and if the car is cold no problem also If I brake sharply and dont stop there is no problem.

I have checked the car is not locked in 4wd causing transmission wind up and also the gearbox shifting is normal I suspect a propshaft joint releasing when I ease off the brakes.

My car is due for 40k service shortly so I want all info possible before I go in so any suggestions (nice ones) will be gratefully received.

cheers and thanks Hammy

Quick update for anyone watching this post, my car went in for 40k service and all that was found was a blocked breather for the gearbox and guess what car runs perfectly now. This must have been blocked during some recent deep water wading which was bottom of doors deep and some 40yrds long, I did do the wading correctly and got a lovely bow wave going keeping water from under car but it still got blocked so anyone wading with a Terracan I would check this breather regularly.

Ah smooth running again.

cheers Hammy
