Hello Everyone,

I am in the UK and I'm new on this forum, having joined only yesterday, so hi everyone!

I have almost completed a p/x deal; my Vectra GSI 3.2 V6 for a 2005 Tucson CDX CRTd. However, I am holding back at present as I have only discovered some disturbing feedback from current owners concerning fuel consumption. First of all, can anyone please tell me whether or not the consumption on the latest, 138 bhp, 6 sp. box model is significantly better than the 111 bhp, 5 sp. box version that I'm thinking of getting?

I am currenty getting 35 - 37 on a long, mostly motorway, run with our GSI 3.2. If the Tucson is going to be worse than that - or even only roughly the same - then there is little point in changing. I had hoped that dropping from a 3.2 petrol to a 2 litre diesel would mean lower fuel bills, but now I'm not so sure. Please help!

Best regards,
Will Owen

a 2005 Tuc provided its had its updates done should in manual config produce between 32-35 dependant upon the weight of your right foot and the speeds that you do.
Chugging about comfortably at about 60 then that is achievable.

The New Evo IV 6 Speed in the Tucson 2.0CRTD CDX Limited should return around 40 well thats what I have been reading and thats what I am hoping for as I have changed my 2004 model for a 2007 Tucson 2.0CRTD CDX Limited which I get on the 31/1/07 (Only 2 days away-yippee)

The tuc offers good value in a motor car- Stop a Tucson owner at the supermarket car park as there are quite a few Tucson owners in the UK who would willingly talk about their cars.
Have a look at http://www.whatcar.co.uk/car-review-readers.aspx?RT=2643 and all of the other reviews there.
I say buy one you will enjoy it. More fun than a Vectra..You can see over hedges.

Cheers
Itza

Hi Itza,

Thanks for your reply. The 32 - 35 you mention; is that the 'combined' consumption - I take it that this is what you've been getting? And as regards the imminent arrival of your replacement Tucson, I wish you well with your new 'pride & joy'!

Oh, and as for supermarket car parks; we went round several very large car parks in the North Wales area on Saturday (we must have appeared rather suspicious to some onlookers!), would you believe it, not one Tucson sighted!!!

Almost forgot, you mention 'updates', can you please tell me what exactly is involved?

Regards,
Will Owen

Right it will depend on the model you are choosing, the main updates are to the diesel versions.
2.0CRTD CDX and GSI that have the fuel consumption guages that calculate mpg were originally in US spec only.
Later Hyundai changed the speedo head unit and speedo gearing to make it more accurate and also initiated an ECM computer upgrade that started to give the early models better fuel consumption.
Once this was done there was an improvement to nearly everyones manual driven vehicles. The auto gearbox versions showed increases but not by as much.

The petrol versions I believe had a ECM change and there seem to be no problems with these 2.0 litre vehicles re consumption One or two people have reported mpg of up to 37mpg.
Have a look through the Fuel consumption pages relating to Ginger Baker and you can read them for yourself.
My personal best has been 35.7 on a run M4 to Bristol and return at 35.6 Hope this helps

Hi Itza,

Thanks once again. We have now abandoned the idea of going for a 5 speed manual and, if my wife continues to be stuck with the idea of owning a 4x4, we will probably give the later (6 speed manual, diesel) CDX or GSI versions some consideration. If that will be the case, it will have to be much later in the year when the prices of used ones start to drop a bit. However, even that plan might be abandoned as well if there is hardly any improvement in the consumption of the newer ones.

I am aware of the fact that you have not yet recieved delivery of your new one so I would welcome a response from anyone else as well who might like to chip in on this next question: How much better on fuel consumption (in reality, not just on paper) is the latest 138 bhp, 6 sp. manual, CDX or GSI diesel version of the Tucson than their older 5 speed version?

Many thanks in advance,
Will Owen
