My granddaughter's recently purchased Hyundai Elantra 2001 has a factory alarm system. She lives on a busy street. If she locks her doors with her lock mode button on the fob, it automatically sets the alarm and it goes off evertime a car drives by in the lane close to her. It also goes off all day in the parking lot where she works. Dealer said they couldn't do anything about it. Anyone know what to do? Thanks!

If it is a factory alarm Hyundai usually don't fit shock sensors to the system, and so if your dealer has said he can't do anything about it then it sounds like an aftermarket alarm module and not a true genuine hyundai alarm.

You could very well be right, because the dealer said there should be some type of "valet" switch on the bottom of the steering column that would allow one to make an adjustment and there is not one. We can't seem to find any signs of after-market installation and the owner's manual said it came with a factory installed alarm system. I went on line to Hyundai and they gave a complicated schematic with five or six senor locatoins. I suppose we could have each sensor checked to see if it is malfuntioning.

Had a chat with HMC and the new tuscon has an issue with the alarm malfunctioning, seems as though the fade out interior light isn't fading to zero when the door is shut, and to overcome this hyundai introduced an alarm delay after the car is locked. You could have the same issue, maybe, hyundai alarms are one module and no other wiring... because the unit should plug into the fuse box or BCu.

Thank you for your interest. We don't know if the 2001 Elantra has the fade out interior light or not. She doesn't live with us, so we'll have to find out later. Do you think we could just replace the alarm module in the car and solve the problem? con
