Here on the SF East Bay Area we have a lot of gravel trucks dropping gravel on the roadways. My 2007 Azera just had its windshield broken by one of these rocks. Has anyone had to replace their Azera windshield yet? If so what were your experiences for those of you who had a Hyundai OEM windshield installed. How about those of you that had a generic Azera fit windshield installed? I just want to avoid any optical, mechanical, mirror mount, or other problems. Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

Speaking from past experience not on an azera, but I've had oem and after market windshields in my cars. OEM is better, they have proper A lines, and don't tend to fog up as much if you ask me. There always seemed to be a greasy film on my after market windshields that never seemed to go away.

One thing you have to consider if you have the ultimate package is the rain sensor imbedded in the windshield. I would think a non OEM installer could not replace the windshield then.

Depending on where you are, you might have a problem finding a non-OEM glass supplier/installer. Just curious, I checked a couple on-line for my ZIP code (windshieldstogo, glass.net) and the Azera isn't yet one of the choices available...

Thanks for the multiple responses. I did not even think of the rain sensor; this could be a REAL problem if non-OEM (A bit like the special glass for heads-up displays in Vettes). The non-OEM problems (film and fogging) are something I do not want to deal with. If non-OEM windshields are not available yet I have only the OEM one available, which seems like the only way to go. Thanks guys.

From a personal point of view.. the rain sensing wipers seem a bit much. I never will use that option.

there's no real choice, since the limited has no standard intermittant setting, its autosense, low and high.

The problem with aftermarket windshields is not only their tendency to fog up but the surface treatment is more likely to 'scrape up' when you use a scraper to remove ice. Thats when the scraper leaves a surface blemish curve on the glass.
Thats not 100% true of all aftermarket but certainly the ones from China. Unless there is a huge price difference we tell our customers to get factory units and we are not a body shop (for street cars).

Our '07 Azera Limited with Premium package had its windshield cracked from a stone while we were on a trip. I had two different dealerships price replacing the windshield for the car. Their price was about $532 with tax plus the labor for installation. In our case we will be paying for the replacement ourselves. We have a $1K deductible insurance policy which will not cover the cost.

I checked with a local auto-glass shop in Sherman, TX and found out that they can get the windshield with the heating elements under the windshield wiper blades and do the job for $495 plus tax complete. If the glass did not have the heating elements under the wipers, it would not be as costly. It is a nice feature though. This past year we had more than our usual share of snow and icie conditions during the Winter months. It will be nice to know that the wipers will not stick in the park position.

We used the same shop before for repl

If anyone else has a Limited with Premium package and needs a windshield replaced, check with local suppliers before going to a dealership to have it done.

If you have the Ultimate package, then you have no recourse. :o

Joe

LOVE my rain sensing wipers! Used to have to continually readjust intermittent speeds as rainfall varied as I drove. Now, car does it for me. I do not leave them on, but turn on AUTO when needed.
BTW, in S. C., by state law the insurance company has to replace the windshield at no cost if it is borken, chipped, etc.

When some kids smashed in our first Azera's windshield we were told by our dealership that they could not order windshields directly from Hyundai, that they were only available via "glass companies". They also had trouble figuring out whether the windshield had the heating element or not (it's the limited, it does), so they ordered the wrong one. The experience with this dealer's body shop was so poor, I'm not certain I really believe anything they say.

I'd always go for OEM windshield glass especially if insurance will cover any part of it. For no other reason than that the manufacturer can provide exact specs for the glass, the contours & angles. Side windows & rear windshield are less critical because the airbags don't "bounce off them".
