yea its tough taking pictures in the dark of lights. . . I've already gotten "ok" pictures by covering the flash somewhat with my finger.

So when you unlock the car do the mirror lights flash too?? If so that must be pretty sweet looking

hah, try taking a pic in pitch dark with a canon digital rebel and lots of lens.
it took me 10 tries to get the shot i wanted, but i eventually resorted to taping the camera to the rental car roof, then gently pressing the button.

love that camera though, need to get myself one eventually

Buy a tripod and remote release. For serious work I use a Canon D-30, and despite the legion of improvements made since the film days, sometimes they can't improve on the old ways. At least nowadays you can see your results and press the Erase if you don't like and try again. It's almost impossible to hand-hold a long exposure without blurring, image stabilization or no. I think IS is intended for exposures of 1/5 sec, not 5 sec.

BTW, that Panasonic's a good one!

Edited for grammar.

i wasnt knocking the panasonic... thats one of the ones with the leica lenses iirc. very nice little cameras, i was just adding my two cents about shooting with a telephoto style lens and almost no ambient light.

the mirrors look great by the way, completely forgot why i clicked on the thread :)

ON TOPIC:
Great mirrors they really look terrific!
OFF TOPIC:
That's an old Olympus 3000 (just 3.1 megapixels) but I know it with closed eyes.
I'm thinking about a DSLR and I do not know what to take.
Canon XTi:
Everybody buys it is good because of that? Never liked the slightly over exposed red and blue of the Canons
Nikon D80:
Lots of dough and rated on of the best, perhaps too complex (don't know)
Olympus E500:
Bang for the buck, CCD not CMOS and great color bias
Euro Olympus E400 (10 Megapixel):
Almost as expensive as the Nikon (until the box is here) but great reviews.
I'm not that Canon fan (as you may read between the lines) but I'm totally undecided - HELP

i almost pulled the trigger on the XTi but i have a minolta 7000i i have a huge telephoto lense for it that i hardly ever used i mainly used wide angle lense and the one that came with the camera. So i decided to go with a good quality camera that i could slap on a 2 or 3x lense or wide angle i narrowed it down between the fuji fs6000 and the panasonic lumix fz50. the lumix built in lense goes from 35 to 420 in 35mm equiventcy which i think is great. after i get my led tail lights ill pick up a 2x and wide angle lense for it

im a fan of the canon because i was lent one 5 minutes before boarding an aeroplane for vacation and i had it figured out by my 5th shot.
very simple to use, and very simple to get great results from.

the nikon is really nice, and up here, cheaper than the canons, but i found it somewhat too tricky to learn. perhaps the D40 has enough of the same features with a bit simpler controls, but i havent looked at it yet.

havent played with an olympus yet, but my friend has one and its gone in for servicing twice in a very short time. im not sure why or for what.

i guess the only solution is to go play with them at a good, friendly camera store.
then buy online ;)

Many DSLRs use a CCD image sensor. CCD + interchangeable lenses = dust specks.

A CCD is a tiny dust magnet. Canon and others use an LCD image sensor; much less attraction for dust.

I was a Canon Man years ago, so I'm not terribly objective. Usta have a Minolta Dimage; what a mediocre user interface compared to the Canon.
