In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.

I’ve started collecting data on the 2007 Santa Fe, thanks in part to help from members of this forum. But a larger sample would be very helpful.

Participants report repairs the month after they occur. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.

Details: Vehicle reliability research

Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

11 so far, thanks guys. I've started data collection. Assuming people keep joining, I'll have the first results around the end of May.

Edit: now 14

Up to 19. Results in May become likely when there are 25 enrolled, so more would be very helpful.

Who's getting these 11L/100km fuel economy ratings?? I'm lucky to get anything below 15L/100km (approx 400km/per 60L fill-up)

I've gotten 11L/100km, but I'm usually around 12. Hey Bimmer, maybe you should change your name to Mr. Heavyfoot! Just kidding buddy :P

Hey BimmerDon
I'm getting 13.5 - 15.5 L/100km on mostly short trips in the city. So far, I have only gone 3800 kms and had it for 4 months. The only thing that bugs me is the front dome light. I park underground and is very dark trying to find the ignition. Otherwise I love driving this vehicle. Gord

Actually, that would be Mrs Heavy Foot (it's my Wife's car - I got the real car! )... she's also known as Mrs. Hitsthepost.

Looks like someone signed in before viewing the fuel economy survey results. If you signed up as Canadian, you see all results in l/100km, even if they were reported in MPG or even MPIG. The program performs a three-way conversion.

Most likely the numbers you're seeing were reported as MPG. Even more importantly, pay attention to the heaviness of the foot and the type of driving.

By the way, up to 25 now. Thanks. Now for the next 25...

I'm hoping to have results in May. I'll probably need more participants for this to happen, though. Just one or two additional responses could make all the difference between having results in May and waiting three more months for the August update.

I signed up for this when it was first posted and it's a no brainer to respond and participate. Basically I get an email every month or two asking to click on a link "Yes I had problems and had to take it in to get it fixed", or "No problems". Every time I've clicked on "No Problems" and the results are recorded.

Thanks, Captain.

I've been looking at the April responses as they come in. I don't know if I'm going to have quite enough responses to include the new Santa Fe in the May results. A few more participants could make all the difference. Otherwise, the first results for the 2007 Santa Fe will be released in mid-August.

People who sign up in the next few days will still be included in the April data collection as long as they already owned their Santa Fe in March.

With the Santa Fe I ended up two vehicles short of the new minimum of 25 for counting the results as "official." I'll post the partial results in a few days, when they're finalized.

The next update will be in August. I expect those results to be considerably more solid than those I can provide this month.

Not only is this site easy to use, but I use it to keep track of my gas mileage. It keeps a database of all my mileage entries and does an overall average.

Thanks, Captain.

I posted the results in a June 1 thread:

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t17503-trued...ts-santa-fe.htm

Definitely need more participants for reasonably accurate results.

I'll have updated results for the 2007 Santa Fe next month.

For other model years I still need more people to sign up before I can start collecting data.
