I've found that playing MP3 CDs in the player will result in skips from time to time. This does not happen on regular CDs and I've tried the same CDs in my DVD player which plays MP3 CDs. Also, if I rewind a bit to the same spot, it won't skip a second time. It seems completely random.

I think there's a defect in the player. It does this on all my MP3 CDs. Anybody experience this?

We play almost nothing but MP3's and have not experienced any skipping. Make sure that you have decent blank CD's. I used to use cheap CD's but found I was making too many coasters and had issues with my computer not being able to read the disks. I use only name brand name blank CD's now.

I have noticed this as well - no skips on regular CD's but definitely skips more than you would expect on mp3 cd's. I only use high quality Verbatim media and they're all pretty clean.

If it were the CD's fault, you'd think it would skip in the same spot every time. That's why I think there might be a problem with the player. It doesn't do it a lot, but maybe every 3 or 4 songs. Kinda annoying. Might call the dealer.

I don't know if it makes any difference or not, but maybe the compression rate (bit rate) would make a difference. I know that if they are encoded at a really low bit rate they can sound like they are skipping. I encode mine at 192 kbit/s, which is higher than the "standard" of 128. I can't get as much onto a CD (130 songs on average), but the quality is great.

For more information on MP3 bit rates and sound quality go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Bit_rate

Mine are at 128 to 160. It's not a bad quality encode, as they play fine in my home stereo. It's definitely something the car player has a problem with.

Definitely sounds like a hardware problem. Looks like you and I are doing the same thing with our CD's and yet yours are skipping. Good luck with your dealer!

Same here, I generally use encode at 192, sometimes I even go up to 320 just for kicks (not sure I really hear a difference).

I don't think I'm really going to pursue this since I'm intending to go aftermarket. I'm just waiting for more solutions to become available for this new model. Hopefully, the fact that someone else is having the same problem may be of use to you when trying to get it fixed.

Yes, very helpful hoyer. I think I'll follow up with the dealer on this one. Hopefully it was just a few bad units and a replacement will fix it.

On the bright side, it's pretty much the only complant I have on the car!

I had a panasonic that skipped, it was due the bitrate. Having said that, my mp3 are varying bit rates, and earlier mp3s, and none of them skip.

try using the Blue dyed blank media such as those made by Verbatim. These work really well on mass market CD players such as those in the Santy's

Cheers

Mine does that as well. I attributed it at first to the high bit rates I use (192 at the minimum), as some players do not have the memory to uncompress higher bit rates without 'pausing' for a second. Then I noticed this thread and others having same problem... Thing is, i know if I took it to the dealer he would blame my media or recording method before he would blame the unit.

Okay, I think I've isolated the problem to WMA encoded songs only. I've never had an MP3 skip, only WMA. Anybody that has had a song skip, is it an MP3 or WMA?

And the quailty of the CD doesn't seem to matter. I bought some expensive CDs(3 for $10-yikes) to see if it mattered, and they still skipped the WMAs.

I've never played an WMA file, maybe that's why I haven't had any skipping.

Maybe Hyundai didn't pay enough license fees to Microsoft...

Regardless, no more WMAs for me. Now I'll have to re-rip my older CDs. I hope this is the answer anyway.

I don't have the CD changer so it's possible it's a different issue. But I seem to be having good luck with MP3s so far.

So far at least 3 of us have this issue, and probably many more not on this forum.

The speed at which you burn your disks may have an affect on the quality of the recording. I find (and I have tested this on my santy) that the faster I burn the MP3's to disk the more chance there is that they will jump???

Don't ask me why, but every cheap disk I burnt at 52x speed jumps?? Every disk I burn at 24x or lower plays fine?

Contrary to what I have previously posted even the blue 52X compatable Verbatim disks jump when I burn them at high speed. Though I have best results with them when burnt at lower speed.

don't know if this will help but it certainly cured mine.

Hmmm, interesting topic, I haven't had a problem with WMA or MP3. All my songs are ripped at 192.
