Help!
Have just bought a 1994 Lantra GLSI and it ran fine but it's all of a sudden lost all acceleration in all gears and there's a high pitched whistle when you try and rev it. The clutch isn't slipping and the air filter is fine - any suggestions??
I was forced to crawl up a hill in 2nd gear doing 20kmh yesterday!! Not good!!

Hi, sounds like you have run into the dreaded "slipped timing belt". If you can do it yourself, take the timing belt cover off and align the two timing marks on the fromt of the cam pullies with each other and the top of the head by turning the motor CLOCKWISE ONLY, by hand. When you have done this, look at the timing mark on the front pulley, you may have to clean it to see it. You will probably find that the mark on the pulley is nowhere near where it is supposed to be. If it is out, you should get a mechanic to reset the timing but you also should consider having a new timing belt kit fitted, not cheap but better than a destroyed motor. Cheers
