Wife just got in from visiting in-laws to tell me that she put the passenger window down on our Matrix and now the thing is open and refuses to come up. The window lock isn't active as I can turn it on and off and use the rear windows with no problems. On the off-chance it might have been the fuse, which it wouldn't be as one fuse handles all the windows it would seem, I switched the fuse for another of the same kind. Nothing. Clutching at straws, I even reset the alarm/immobiliser/remote central locking. Again nothing. I'm now going to have to clear the garage to get the **** car in out of the elements as this has happened out of hours and there's no local service available til Monday at the earliest. Is there a manual override for this thing or am I simply going to have to wait until Monday?

Thanks for your time and attention!

Regards,

John

no, there is not an over-ride, you have a fault with the window motor or the switch, this is a problem with electric windows on any make of car, you will need to remove the door trim panel to acess the motor and then check if there is power going to it which will tell whether the motor or the switch is at fault (sometimes the motor just sticks and a gentle whack with a hammer on the motor will do the trick)

BTW welcome to the forums :00000732:

You were half-way there; the window became misaligned over time as the rubber seals dried out and dragged on the glass, making the normally free-floating pane slightly on an angle. Took it to Hyundai and the guy sprayed the seal and top of the glass with something that smelled like WD-40, wiped off the excess, gave the inside door panel a whack and the window came up again when he pressed the button. Talk about low-tech, but it worked. Something to do with the scissor action of the mechanism inside not working properly due to the pane not sitting properly. I felt foolish, but happy.
