*****Please look for updates below, as this is a living post***** I recently upgraded from an 05 Elantra to an 07 Sonata. The one thing though, was I missed my Carputer. The main thing which made this install difficult is the "premium audio" that came with the car. This required by-passing the factory amp in order to get direct wiring to the speakers, which are pretty good. Hyundai has a great tech website, and had the wiring diagrams to make the job somewhat easier. I removed the factory amp and put my amps in it's place. Now, on to the computer install. I purchased the EBY701-NP 7" screen to use with this screen bezel from Korea http://dreamka4u.com/m_mall_detail.php?ps_...&ps_goid=83 One final note: Please ignore the fingerprints on the bezel :-) The rest of the components came from my Elantra install: CPU: iBase mb896 with Pentium-M 2.0ghz/VoomPC Enclosure OS: WinXP Pro SP2 Frontend: RoadRunner Mobile TV: Slingplayer GPS Software: Iguidance 4.0 GPS Receiver: Holux USB Bluetooth Receiver: Globalsat BTA-806 Keyboard: Bluetooth Freedom Mini Remote Control: Snapstream Firefly (Upgraded from Macally) WiFi: Internal Intel 2915ABG EVDO Router: Top Global MB6000 EVDO RevA Express Card: Novatel V740 (provides Internet via Verizon Wireless) External EVDO/Cellular antenna: http://www.eur-am.com/8001900/819g-10-fmef.jpgMain Amp: Volfenhag ZX-8300 Subwoofer Amp: Kenwood KAC529S Harness: Scosche HY05 Capacitors for Factory Tweeters: 10.0µF Radio Shack Cat#272-999 Speakers/Sub: Factory Infinity ****Updates**** I've added a pdf with wiring diagrams and a picture of the factory amp location. Here's a link to a metra kit manual that helped me with the removal of the factory headunit: http://www.metraonline.com/downloads/pdf/T...9-7320%20pdf%22

Are you using road runner?
Can you tell me where to find that skin?
I am starting on building a CarPC and was looking for a Hyundai logo'd skin.
The link to the bezel is dead... where did you find it?
Did you install a stereo head unit someplace?
Thanks, Jamie

QUOTE(Dennis the Mennis @ Sep 26 2006, 05:27 AM) What are those orange-and-green disks sitting inside the spare? Passive radiators?
Seriously, sweet setup! I'm new to carputer, so a n00b question: why have an interface to DirectTV? I assume Internet access is via wifi; how's coverage?
Those disks are paper bowls to keep the screws and wire nuts at bay. The DirecTV shown is the slingplayer (http://www.slingmedia.com) client controlling my Tivo at home via the Internet. For mobile Internet access I'm using Verizon Wireless mobile broadband, which is using their cellular network. I pretty much get coverage wherever my phone works. However, not all areas are equipped with the higher speed EVDO access. I use the Wifi mainly to transfer new music or software when at home. What's cool is I have the mediaengine software configured to auto sync new music to the carpc, when I arrive at home.

QUOTE(dogstar @ Sep 26 2006, 03:55 PM) very sweet man.... there is just something great about seeing a Start button in a cars dashboard.
feel free to post more detail pics of the install and any more info you care to give out as there are people interested. plus, once i get things more organized for the audio FAQ id love to use some of your info, if you are willing.
I will continue to update this post with more information and links. If you have any questions that will assist in building the FAQ, let me know. Because, without these forums, I would have never got as far with this project.

QUOTE(dood @ Sep 26 2006, 08:07 PM) One of the number one complaints I've seen about carputers is that the screens are really difficult to read in daylight unless you pony up some serious cash - in the realm of 2K just for the touch-screen LCD with the proper treating to be viewable in direct sunlight.
How well can you see your screen in direct sun?
The previous screen I had in my Elantra would wash out pretty bad in the sun. However, this new lilliput I put in is still pretty legible in direct sunlight, at least with the high contrast of the skin I'm using. It could also be the angle at which it is installed that has improved the view in direct sun. Now, if you were trying to watch a movie in direct sunlight, you could have a problem. MP3Car.com does have a screen modified for use in direct sunlight for ~$600.00, but would not fit in the dash without a lot of modification as the lilliput I purchased.

That shouldn't be a problem if you have 5% tints :)

Hi guys.
I am new here, just bought an 06 GLS V6 and can't wait to do some upgrades to it. My 2000 Audi A6 got up in miles and the darn gas prices no longer justify keeping this car. So I looked at the usual cars - Accord and Camry and I was blow away how well these cars retain there value. Long story short, a friend of mine turn me on to the Hyundai family of cars. First sceptical about the name I have to say now that they have come a long way and actually give both Honda and Toyota a run for their money.
Anyhow I had a question for jarredduq - Did you buy any wiring harness to hook the car pc into the existing wiring? If so where did you get it?
I am looking at the Xenarc 700TS screen, but I am only at the evaluation stages. I guess my biggest concern would be to make the screen fit with a clean looking bezel. The one you got definately does the trick and looks 100% stock which I like. Do you have the opening dimensions of the bezel so I can look into the 700TS screen.
Sorry for all the questions... I am just so stoked about the new car and all the great things I can add to it to make it unique.
thanks, anosis

I only used the ACC line from the Scosche HY05 harness. For other power, I ran new lines directly to the battery. The screen is actually powered by the power supply in my PC, as I wanted the clean regulated power. This allows the screen to stay up, when I start the car. I would go with the lilliput monitor I purchased, as the Xenarc would be too tall, and not wide enough, so you would have a gap on each side, and not be able to get to the controls on the bottom of the screen. You should be able to get the Lilliput for ~200, and it fits nearly perfect into the Factory Bezel I ordered from Korea. It is a lot of work putting a PC in your car, but it is SOOOO worth it!

Thanks man. This helps a lot. How long did it take to get the bezel from Korea and how much was shipping? Are you able to play a DVD with the mini PC and possibly even display it on the head rests for the rear passengers. I need to make sure that I can entertain my kids on long trips (20min or more -- are we there yet!! :) ) later, anosis

It took a little over a week to get the bezel, it cost me a total of around $43.00 including shipping. Yes, I can play DVD's. I use this USB drive: http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=1825. I'm going to put it in the area behind the flip down door below the HVAC controls. The issue is the area is not deep enough, and I will have cut a hole in the back of it. So, for now, I just have the drive in the trunk, or just rip several movies to the hard drive. If you want to put output to screens in the back, you will have to get a different enclosure than the one I have, so you have room to put a second video card. If you run two screens in the back, you will also have to get some kind of video splitter. To get educated, I really recommend you check out the http://www.mp3car.com website.
