I purchased a 2004 Terracan a couple of days ago, my old car was a 1997 lwb Shogun.
I feel like I am in a very similar car, eg, Switches, seats, gearbox, controlls etc.
Is this just coincidence or is there a tie up with Mitsubishi?
Regards

in the past hyundai have used mitsubishi parts and technical knowledge and that is why some of the hyundai models are still influenced by mitsubishi, however hyundai are making great strides forward and the mitsubishi influence is now much less common on the newer models

There is definitely some Pajero/Montero/Shogun(same model as far as I am aware) heritage in the car. Magazine reports here in Australia suggest that the Terracan is really just a recycled NL Pajero.

A dealer told me that everything bar the body is the same as the old Pajero also.

But the magazines and that one dealer are not all correct. The chassis is certainly different to the Pajero. It has two extra cross-members as per my recollection. It also has a 5 link rear end coil spring set up as appose the the NL Pajero's 3 link set-up. I'm not sure if the front end IFS set-up is an exact swap either.

The Transfer cases are definitely not from the Pajero(Super Select) being BorgWarner units and the Aisin-Seiki Auto is not the same as the Pajero gear box either I suspect - however I could be wrong there. (Its a beautiful box by the way, as are the transfer cases)

The steering is re-circulated ball type steering as appose the the Pajero's rack and pinion - a major engineering difference.

The V6 is ex Mitsubishi ofcourse but it has a fatter torque curve than the quad cam version Mitsu used - more like the SOHC versions of the 3.5 that Mitsui switched back to in some markets (namely Australia). Terracans V6 is smoother than the SOHC 3.5 of the Pajero.

The 2.9 CRD I have read is all Hyundai so that's that.

That big rear diff is all Pajero - no question.
