I have a Silver 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. I just noticed the other day I have a stone chip on the front right on the edge by the headlight. I am not sure if it is down to the metal or not, when I looked at it, it looked to be dark grey or black in the center. When I tried touching it up and waited a couple days I could rub my finger over the spot touched up and pretty easily wipe it right off. For some reason the paint doesn't seem to harden. Also the touch up paint color looks really off from the original paint, I bought it from the dealership. I am starting to think that the touch up paint they gave me is no good or I am doing something wrong. Anyone have any tips or info to help me out?

i know from experiance that 'colour matching' got cars is useless. there are 6 different shades of white for my car but all colour charts only show one. I would assume its the same for the other colours as the reason there are different shades is that the nossles/tubs of paint are not changed when spraying a different colour. Go to a proper spray shop, they will have all the shades listed.

Dont forget that metallic colors have 2 layers, 1st layer is the paint and the 2nd layer is clear laquer spray that provides the shine, you must put on both the laquer and paint for it to match.
With my old Astra, it was a metallic black, and I purchased the touch up paint from the dealership, it matched but didnt look right, simply due to the fact that I hadn't sprayed on the laquer.
