Hey all - I am new to the site and to Hyundai. I have been pouring through the threads and saw this one on fuel economy. Seems a little scary that folks are averaging 14 or 15 mpg. Our 2007 has 110 miles on it so I will not know what the mileage will look like for a while. I am smart enough to know that the claims made on the sticker are wishful thinking for most vehicles. Looks like we will just have to make the adjustments to driving and maintenance habits to eek out every last bit of efficiency...

The computer readout is deceptive. It adds time that your not moving into your mpg average. Idle your van in a parking space and watch the numbers fall by 1 mpg for every minute your idling. The best way to figure city mpg is to reset your meter just as a light turns green and drive normally in the city for 20-30 miles with no parking lots or shopping/to go window stops. Don't punch the gass, don't tailgate (as it leads to excessive brake and gass), and don't enter parking lots where you drive for excessive periods at 10-15mph. Your target speed should be an average of 35-55mph. At the end of this test, provided you followed my driving directions, your mpg average should be between 18-22mpg. This is the range I achive.
Reset the meter at the begining of a highway trip of a couple of hundred miles. Reset on the highway, not in your drive way. At speads of 70-75 I achieve 26.9 on a brand new engine. Try these measures and see how you do.

Okay - 700 miles in and averaging 18.2 mph. About 70 - 30 around town driving - highway. I am pretty happy with that. I hope that will improve with breakin, but I won't count on it.

one year, 20000 miles, still averaging about 15MPG with stop and go city driving. highway trips can be 24mpg with no hills and keep the speed under 70.
65 mph actually saves gas. 55 more so but you'll cause traffic issues. I've been really careful with the gas pedal around 65, or with cruise and sat at 27...any acceleration or hill will drop this fast.

I had the van for about 2 weeks and 800 km on the odometer. I find the computer MPG a little pessimistic - it will update quickly to show higher fuel consumption but very slow to show lower fuel consumption.
I observed this phenomenon while driving on the highway the other day. I had reset the computer before I re-enter the highway, so when I merge with traffic, I expect the MPG to be lower because of the acceleration. However, as I cruise at a steady speed of around 100 km/h, it doesn't adjust or update to a lower fuel consumption as my Altima does. Usually when you are going down a slope and not pressing on the gas, it is just coasting and should show lower fuel consumption - the Entourage doesn't. Does anyone notice this?
The best way to measure MPG is still checking how much fuel you pump divided by the total distance travel since last fueled.

Now at 24000 miles on my entourage. If I'm nice to the gas, keep it at 65mph or less it will get 29MPG on flat drives. Add hills and it goes down to about 26MPG. Over 65 the MPG drops off fast, will sit around 23 MPG or less on flat steady drives if we cruise at 70.

I have an 07 with 5K. Initially I was seeing averages of 18-ish, but recently (last 2 - 3 tanks) it's averaged 14-15. I live in Colorado, so I'm wondering if the temeratures have an impact.
Don't slam Hyundai for the mpg ratings - those are from the EPA. That said, I'm very dissappointed with the drop in mpg. Our driving is a mix of stop and go and freeway. I feel like I should be seeing at LEAST 18 as a combined average.

The geezer and Grandma are just back from a Hyundai road trip. Missouri to Phoenix to Sedona to Reno to San Francisco, back to Bakersfield to I-40 to I-44 and home. We did lots of mountain driving, and some ridiculous hill-climbing in San Francisco (bad idea.) Total mileage on our 07 Entourage is now 34K, about 5K this trip alone. We have a gold model exactly like member cxl1 described. Overall mpg was 24.6. From receipts along the way, I calculated worse mileage with California gas, about 22.8. With Midwestern gas, TX, OK, MO, IL I get better mileage 25.8 to 26.2 mpg. Is it all just because these states are flatter? In SW Missouri, where everything is hilly, I actually use premium gas, because the car loves it, and the 9% increase in price per gallon is offset by 12% better mileage. Our most recent MO jaunt on premium yielded 27 mpg highway. Disclaimers: Friends, I drive like a geezer. I set the cruise control on the speed limit, not what I think I can get away with. After more than a million highway miles as an adult, I have never had to replace the brakes on any vehicle I have owned (now numbering 41.) And I drive carefully, defensively, assuming that my car is completely surrounded by inbred, slack-jawed, booger-eating morons (I usually am) who are trying to bankrupt my insurance company. I don’t worry about wind noise over 80 mph because I don’t drive 80, and I’m deafer than a post anyway. Of all the long-distance machines we have driven, BMW 535i, Sedan de Villes, Chrysler T&Cs, several Volvos, 2 Kias, and the previous favorite VW Passat V6, the 07 Entourage is the best we have ever owned.
