I few months ago, I purchased the brand new Entourage. I did so because I owned a Santa Fe and loved it, plus I like the warrenty that Hyundai offers.

About a thousand miles in with the new van, I noticed that I was not getting the gas mileage that was advertised (18-25). I am getting significantly less, in between 12 - 14. I get 12 when the air conditioning is running and 14 when it is not. I drive very noramlly and am very easy on cars. 75% of my driving is also done at speeds between 45-65 with little stopping in between.

I shared my concerns with the dealer and they ran some tests on my car and said everything is normal. I was unhappy with this response because at the very least, i sould be getting the very bottom end of 18 per gallon. the 800 number people said that wait until about 3500 miles, then the car will be "broken in" and I will see a jump in gas mileage. I can see this effecting 1 or 2 MPG, but 10 MPG, I just don't see how that is possible.

My question to you all is, has anyone had a similiar problem with their Hyundai, specifically an Entourage. And what type of gas mileage are you getting in your Entourage.

Thanks.

Sounds identical to what we have observed, and been told.

We've had ours for around 6 weeks with no change. The display stays around 20MPG with air running. It goes back to 20 after a reset too. I haven't checked the actual MPG at the pump.

We are getting between 16 and 20 on an average tank. (mostly town driving) The van hit 23 or so on a long 600 mile highway trip. It now has 2500 miles on it.

Members at other Entourage or Sedona Forums have had mixed results as well but I do beleive engine break in is a factor but not necessarily the cure.

We have about 1000 miles on ours- getting 16.5mpg on mostly in-town stop and go driving. on a 160 mile highway trip it got 19mpg.

next weekend we're taking a 300 mile trip fully loaded. I'll try for better numbers.

For comparison, my friend with a toyota sienna gets 18mpg city and 27 highway on long trips.

The real killer on the gas is stop and go traffic- it's averaging 15MPG in town right now.

On the weekend we got 23MPG on the highway during a 400 mile round trip.

Just passed 1200 miles.

I have taken the car into the dealership and they can't find anything wrong with the car, Hyudai corp. says MPGs are an estimate and there is nothing that they can do. i am really frustrated with Hyundai in general and their level of non-support. I have contacted a lawyer to see if there is anything that can be done. In the era where gas is $3 a gallon, it makes a HUGE difference when you are getting HALF of what they say you should.

I hope that no one else has to go through what I've had to go through. It has been a painful back and forth with the dealership on every issue. I would NOT reccomend Hyndai Anaheim to anyone to purchase a car. They are nice when you enter, say all the right things, but when you need them, they give you the run around and tell you to call an 800 number. Now that is GREAT customer service!

That stinks that your local dealer isn't supporting you. It isn't the norm but lousy dealership experiences are the weak link for Hyundai IMHO.

I would see if another dealer will look at it with more supportive results.

I also traded a Santa Fe for the Van. with the SF I got 20mpg regardless of how I drove. We are now averaging the same number with the van with my wife's driving routine. Now at 3700 miles.

I'm now driving her 05 Elantra for my commute (about 60 miles a day). It is giving me 30 consistently so while I miss my SF we are both in cars now that are more appropriate to how they are used.

I purchased a 2007 Entourage in September and the gas mileage was almost 20 mpg. By the second tank I was in the 16 mpg range and am now in the 14 mpg range. I brought it into the dealership's service department and after they looked at it I was told that engine breakin could take up to 10K miles. I only drive about 7K a year. I bought this van because of the mileage claims. It is very discouraging to see such a wide range of mpg obtained by drivers. I would be happy with even the 18 mpg at this point. If anyone gets any satisfaction from service please post. Thanks,

I purchased a new 2007 Hyundai Entourage Limited with Ent/ package on 9/30/2006. We test drove several on the dealer's lot after driving both the Odyssey and Sienna on the same day. We were impressed with the Entourages on the dealer's lot and made the decision to go with the Entourage. The only thing we didn't like was the color (they had Blue and White) we wanted Gold. So the dealer (Van Dyn Hoven Imports, Appleton Wisconsin) was able to locate a Gold one for us in Illinois on Dealer trade. We took delivery two days later. Immediately upon leaving the dealership, we noticed a significant and pronounced low-speed engine braking in 'our' new $30K+ van that was not present in any of the Entourages we had test driven from the dealer's lot. I immediately called the dealer via cell phone and informed them of this. I took the van back to the dealer two days later on 10/4/2006 with 251 miles. The dealer's service manager, Joe Hall, used their diagnostic computer and said the van was not showing any 'problem codes' so there was no problem. We insisted our van had low-speed engine braking unlike any of the other Entourages on their lot, so we took the service manager out for test drives back-to-back in both our van and the new vans on the lot to demonstrate. After the test drives, he confirmed ours had an issue. Well, that was 8 weeks ago, and the van still is not fixed. The service manager, Joe Hall, acknowledged the problem and said they would re-program the transmission, so they did that and he said that had fixed the problem. We happily, went to pick it up. Immediately upon driving it out of the dealership, we experienced the same low-speed engine braking issue. Their transmission re-programming did not fix the issue, it just made it intermittent, ie, three times it will engine brake and then it may not for a time or two, and then it will engine brake again. Now the Hyundai District Parts and Service manager, John Hobson, was just in this morning to test drive with us so we could demonstrate the issue to him. Both the Hyundai DM John Hobson and Joe Hall, the dealer's service manager are now denying there is any issue and refuse to do anything about this because their 'diagnostic computer' still reports no problem codes. If this engine braking issue was constant, I might be able to accept their point of it being a driving characteristic of the vehicle, but the fact this is random and intermittent tells me something isn't right. So my advice...BUYER BEWARE when dealing with Hyundai....if their diagnostic computer doesn't spit out any problem codes, you don't have an issue. This simply means that even though your vehicle doesn't operate as it should, they won't admit to any issue, and your 10 year warranty won't be worth the paper it's printed on. Wish we had waited for the 2007 Sienna now. Anyway, if you see a Gold 2007 Entourage in the Appleton/Oshkosh area of Wisconsin driving around with a big lemon on it, please wave to us..at this point, it seems our only recourse. Best of luck to you all if you own a Hyundai.

Oh...and my Entourage is getting about 18 City, 20-21 overall, and have had a high of 28 all highway on a freeway trip between fills. Small consolation for headaches though.....:(

I see that you're posting this in multiple threads. I won't post my entire response to it here, as I've already written it elsewhere, but I simply have to wonder why you stick with your current dealership if they don't want to help you.

Just go to another dealership's service department and I'm sure they'll have other ideas about how to help you fix your problem. Why drive a car that makes you unhappy and complain about treatment you received at your dealer, without doing anything else to fix the problem? It doesn't make much sense to me. And to imply that all Hyundais will be problems for their owners simply because yours has been unsatisfactory is also a bit off-base.

Just take it to another dealer or call Hyundai customer service's 800 number.

Speaking from the experience of close to 80,000 total vehicle miles in approximately one and a half years of driving two different Sonatas, Hyundai is a great car company who really values and will take care of their customers, but sometimes the dealers don't share the same values. Just go to another dealership and I'm sure someone will help you. Appleton's a good-sized town. If you can't find another dealer in town, I'm sure there's one not too far away.

I hope this helps you find a way to fix your problem, and I'm sorry you've had so much trouble. To all you other Hyundai owners out there, don't feel bad. I love my Hyundai and will buy another Hyundai when the time comes. I couldn't be happier with them!

The MPG on the entourage is an average. When you drive in town you will be getting the worst possible gas mileage 12-18mpg depending on how you are driving. This is normal. When you reach and sustain highway speeds you will be getting around 25-28mpg without A/C on. Because you start with a low number, it takes a long time on the highway to bring your average up. Try getting on the highway, set your cruise control at 55 with the A/C on auto. Once this is done, reset your MPG display. After about a 1/3 of a mile, it will show you what your actual MPG on the highway is. It will probably be better than 24-25mpg. I have gotten as high as 29 with the A/C off. I hope that this helps.

MPG claims by car companies are unrealistic - everyone knows this. The tests they use to generate these figures don't match real world driving and are I think based on driving at a constant speed, with no temperature variation etc. THey are changing the method used to calculate MPG figures soon I think, and all vehicle estimates are expected to drop by up to 12%.

Anyone worried about economy should not be driving an SUV, CUV, minivan or truck.

now at 7K miles, at 65mph on flat ground, cruise control and AC on Auto, the MPG will stay around 28, higher speeds will significantly decrease MPG. Hills, acceleration drop the mpg down to 20, so lower speeds help even this out a bit. Around here there are only a few highways where 28mpg can be maintained. So we live with 17MPG with much city driving.

The 10-12MPG posts are a little unnerving- there is little legal recourse regarding MPG and it seems that the best the government can do is force the auto makers to have more realistic numbers. Hyundai is no different in it's response than the other automakers regarding MPG- it's "subjective" for every driver. Hard to prove without hiring an engineer and a lawyer.

Let's face it, for the most part we're all enjoying the benefits of a 4600LB+cargo vehicle with reasonable aerodynamics and a 245HP low emission engine. Compare those numbers to SUV's with V8 engines.

The entourage is not going to get good MPG with ANY acceleration or fast driving. I still can't put 8 adults in it, but I'm not getting the 16MPG HWY/11 city that my surburban driving cousin gets and I know that I have a much safer vehicle.

id love a van suc etc but im used to accents milage and fill up costs....
manufactures and govt agensies test on a track usually, no varibles involved like in the real world.
i always expect at least 5 mpg less that what the window says...
our accent started getting really good milage after 40 000 kms.. good milage before.
i think hyundais are just tight...

My current odometer reading is ~4200Km. The most I have ever gotten out of a full tank of gas is 370KM, and 250KM of that was pure highway driving @ 110KM/H with cruise control on.

On average, I can only push 300KM on a full tank of gas without running on fumes, which is pretty unacceptable IMO.

I drive normally, I do not floor it, I am actually pretty easy on the gas/brake.

I feel Hyundai really BS'd on the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

I easily get 450KM on my 04 Santa Fe GL V6.

I haven't had my Entourage long enough to get the exact MPG yet. But I'll tell you straight up that if I had bought my vehicle for the gas mileage, it would have been an Accent!! :)
